Those books were great, Clan Smoke Jaguar got snuffed out completely by the IS forces.

I vaguely recall the Smoke Jaguars being wiped out, they got sold out by the "wardens" faction of the clans right? (Clans Wolf and Ghost bears) if that's where it stands today then I still recall the lore pretty well.

Didn't Clan Wolf get exspelled or chose to leave the "clan-area" over that whole ordeal - to join their mercenary buddies in the inner sphere?

Ahh I need to order all those BT/MW books I am missing, as I did with the Warhammer 40k ones a few months ago.

The clan hate, where it exists (and I'm not much of a fan of clan myself), is due to the mindless inflation it represented, and also how it considerably strengthened the flow towards mindless toe-to-toe blast fests at the expense of tactics due to the lowered to-hit numbers from skill and gear. That combination definitely lowered the fun factor for me.

I won't lie, this makes me excited. The last decent mech game was 3.

Innersphere drama-queens were nothing compared to the clan drama queens.

WTB game centered around Clan Wolverines' Trial of Annihilation. The Jade Falcon vs. Wolf stuff was pretty good, too, and even though it's already been done I wouldn't mind seeing that revisited in a game. Or a Star League era throwback. But, as previously mentioned, the kiddies wouldn't have their l33t timberwolf/madcat.

I was browsing their newsletters, and evidently they're voting between two different visual models for the Vulture/Mad Dog. You think someone would get their shit together and make a game that actually changed the mech model according to your weapon outfit/variant. That is LONG, LONG overdue.

Smoke Jaguars were my favorite clan. I was extremely sad when I heard they officially died.

There were a few good ideas in 3050+ though. Like CASE. Prior to CASE, ammo explosions discouraged light-mech ammo builds with a direct risk cost. I always felt CASE allowed for a wider variety of light and medium builds, by just switching to a weight/performance cost instead.

Anyways, the Succession Wars dramaqueen action was far, FAR superior to clan dramaqueen action. I mean, it's hard to beat Kurita/Davion bullshitry (complete with backstabbing, incest and even incestous backstabbers), Wolf's Dragoons bullshitry and the Liao/Marik special brand of bullshitry. In fact, the only reason I could agree that the Clans had some drama action in them was because Aleksandr Kerensky was the ULTIMATE inner sphere drama queen.

But I'm actually hoping for something more along the lines of the Mechwarrior:Mercenaries MMORPG (and the later MW4:Mercenaries, which had the same mechanism). It would lend itself infinitely better to a MMORPG because the players can then choose who and to what extent to be aligned with and also allow for a broader range of PVP options. The mercenaries concept just lends itself better to the Succession Wars era imo.

found it, the Urban mech!

The best part is, there was an Urbanmech variant that mounted an AC/20.

We used to play the HELL out of MW2:Mercenaries on KALI. MW2 had the best MECH customization of any of the MW games so far.

The new Dark Age books suck. Who wants to read about some jackasses duking it out in Agro Mechs with 1 medium laser strapped to it?

MW:4 with all the add-ons (including the impossible to find but online Clan Mech pack) is still the most solid mech game in my mind.

Drilling down into that wiki I got to the BattleTech: Dark Age wiki, which sounds pretty fucking cool. It's owned by wizkids though for their Clix game or something. I don't suppose the Dark Age stuff has been novelized at all, has it?

Except for that bug where if you and an enemy Mech were traveling in the same, parallel direction, when you hit him you were hitting his rear armor. Not many knew about it, though, due to the preference of shooting the legs off.

Jesus, when I found out about it, though, max med pulse lasers to the chest, almost insta boom.

There was also another way to cheat that people figured where you could change the 'Mechs your enemy had right before the game started since damage was done on your machine, not theirs. Replace their med pulse mech with one with one small laser? Yeah, he had a chance.

We figured out some guys were doing that in one of those badass Leagues where you could attack other teams territories....was kind of a bite.....

....so, yeah, Mechwarrior MMO please.

I still think the Battletech/Mechwarrior universe would make an amazing PVP based MMO.

I'm sure there's a Mechwarrior type MMO in the works somewhere.
