Yeah, it didn't look like that was quite that deadly of a blow.

Unless that guy's martial art somehow uses the back of a wrist a lot(for whatever reason), it seems like the karate guy really went easy on him. He should broke his fucking head off!!!!!

I'm not sure if your post was supposed to be sarcasm or not, but that was a weak backfist for sure. I'm a martial artist myself, although I don't claim to be a "karate master", and the backfist is quite possibly my favorite and best move. Thus, I know a fair bit about it.

He didn't put his hips into it at all, and basically all he really did was club the guy with the back of his wrist.

A real backfist involves a twitch of your hips to aid the motion, and a good snap of the wrist adding to the momentum. The striking surface is the back of the knuckles.

This certainly wasn't enough, I don't think, to knock the guy cold for a few seconds and then leave him wobbly for minutes more.

Add to that the fact that this was conveniently caught on videotape...

I wouldn't be at all surprised if this was a self-promoting setup. There's enough con artists with black belts out there, unfortunately.

I didn't spend much time looking at the video, but it appears that he hit him with his wrist, not his fist. Then again, I could be wrong. I'm no martial artist, but I can't imagine hitting someone with your wrist is a good idea.

In hindsight, it's a good thing he didn't do a powerful blow, because he could probably seriously injure someone with those board breaking skills.

I saw that karate guy video on wildest police chases, or whatever it is, on spike tv and didn't think his chop was enough to knock the guy out cold like that, but after watchin the clip a few times, here's what i can tell: The chop looks more like a stiff forearm to the guys jaw. his elbow is almost at the guys mouth and wrist around the temple area of the guy, so a stiff forearm to the jaw, a bit of pressure to the temple area and the fact the pimp is caught the guy off guard all probably contribute to the goin down quick. he did have a bit of oomph behind it also. Not much, but enough. As for being out on his feet after, watch his head when he crashes down. He basically lands on the side of his head on the pavement. I'm sure that definately helped stir the cobwebs around up there.
