It was a timpani mallet that broke hitting the rim of the drum and it stabbed him in the cheek. You can see him holding the broken stick.

I have been stabbed a few times in my arms by broken sticks but never in the face.

Ah! I didnt think an optical nerve was that long, but it looked like it when i first watched it.

Does anyone have a link to the video of the presentation about the future 5-10-20 years from now (The amount of hits Google gets, the fact that there will be more English speakers in China then in the US, labor market, how many married couples met through online dating services, Amount of engineers in India)?

I thought I might have saw it in this thread, but going back through 100 pages of unindexed video is not very appealing.

I believe it's "The Kiss" by Clannad, on the "Last of the Mohicans" soundtrack.

The description of the video seems to agree:
