this is just like saying that "My child is a killer and wants to kill people after playing grand theft auto!!" when its not the fucking video games fault, its the horrible parents fault and the fucking psycho childs fault. if a kid wants to go kill people because of playing video games then the kid is insane. not to mention bad parents. parents just fucking use shit like tv, and video games for excuses for their parenting and having a fucked up kid.. sad.

Does that explain why you are such a complete idiot Minmoi? Was it your parents fault? If you go out and shoot someone it is your own fault. Not because of your parents, not because of video games, etc.. If you are addicted to online games that is your own fault. Not ......

Muahaha.. under keywords for games they left off City of Heros! I will now be compelled by the game to use my super powers to fight crime! But seriously... i didnt even want to go to that site for fear of how utterly stupid it would make me.. i was right. It was almost laughable... ALMOST... but not quite. I wanted to laugh.. but i couldnt do anything but shake my head and try not to let the stupidity get to me. I couldnt even finish reading their twelve step thing. And to people who do stupid shit like the Woolley kid did... if you are dumb enough to end your life over a game you really do deserve to die. And as i think about it the game has done much more good for these people then bad.. with or without the game they are messed up mentally and most likely have depression problems. The game has provided them with online friends that have most likely helped them forget about many real life problems. And I'd much rather see the nutcases kill themselves over a game than having some psychotic episode or something and hurting others.

Turkish, I respect one's grieving, but this is just unacceptable. The blatant ignorance with which this woman acts, and the organization that backs her, is just a travesty of intelligence. Sorry her son died, but no, not for a damn minute do I feel sorry for her. This is not the way you handle grief. She's using the blame on video games as an outlet to express her grief and anger over her son's suicide, the people backing her (aren't they supposedly psychiatrists or something) should know this. No, i didn't literally wish that this woman die, but Jesus, the ignorance with which she carries out her moronic crusade is utterly apalling. If I ran an MMOG company, I would completely refute her claims that EQ caused her son to commit suicide, then sue her for slander. She was sueing SOE for her son's death wasn't she? How is this legal battle going/how did it go? Seems like a big company like Sony would probably settle out of court if they could to avoid scandal, but I'm a firm believer in fighting tooth and nail for your company's cause. It's sort of sickening that people like her receieve payoffs every day from similar bullshit lawsuits. Please correct me if I'm wrong on the legal stuff.

. Here is a nice sampling of what Liz is all about in her own words. --------------------- The same is true with computer games. If you find one that is tweeked to your flavor, you may be in trouble. What I am saying is this: To protect the people from themselves, some activities, such as gambling, have restrictions on them. I am saying this new activity that is just cropping up, is also showing harmful effects on people and their families and loved ones. Restrictions and education and help need to be made available for this "latest" phenomenon, so people and their families and friends can get help if they need to. Liz This lady scares me. She talks of restrictions and saving people from themselves. Who the fuck does she think she is! Xregg Ayonae Ro

Just genuinely curious, but am i the only one that thinks her website is a good thing? She honestly just seems to want to help people who are addicted to MMORPG, and we all know that they can be addicting. She doesn't want these games shut down, she just wants companies to acknowledge that they're addictive, and provide help to players addicted. I predict that she gets her way in the future, i believe that MMORPG are a new form of addiction, i think it's about as addictive as gambling. I didn't have many problems quitting, but i've never felt the way i felt about EQ than with any other game... saving screenshots from it, missing people from it, missing being in the game itself, etc. The only thing that pissed me off about that website are the huge religious undertones, but that's just because i'm not religious. Her son did have psychological problems, and EQ just pushed him over the edge, and if it wasn't EQ then it would have been something else if he didn't get help, i agree with that. I would hope that she realizes that too. But like i said, she doesn't want EQ shut down, just wants SOE to acknowledge their game can be addictive to some people, and offer the help that her son might have needed. Flame on ![]()

/nod Schar You have to view Everquest like alcohol. While you yourself may have a handle on it and can do it in moderation, there's still many people out there who can't handle it, are full-blown addicts, and it can seriously fuck up their lives. Ultimately free-choice and personal will-power are stronger than a game/alcohol, so while it's silly to blame a suicide for it, you have to admit it can be a powerful catalyst. People have lost their jobs, dropped out of school, fallen out of long-term relationships, gotten sleeping/eating disorders etc etc. If you don't think these are real problems in the real world due to a read addiction to EQ, then you are sadly mistaken. It seems to me this Liz Wooly site is no different than a religious AA site. Annoying? Perhaps... But it's not designed for ALL EQ players, just the folks where EQ has become a problem in their life. Their point is to help people overcome their addiction. Flame-worthy? Hardly...
