If you ever come out to LA, remind me to take you on a tour of the San Fernando Valley (aka, the Hollywood of the Porn Industry). It's fascinating how 90% of the world's porn is produced in unmarked, unnoticeable suburban houses in the heart of middle-class Los Angeles.

Also, as for why there are so many young women in porn -- it's the economics. If you're a young girl from a rough background, and you know you're not going to college, you'll make more money in porn or in stripping than you will at any "respectable" job you have available to you. Porn/stripping outpays waitressing, retail, secretarial work, etc by an outrageously high factor. Porn is basically the highest-paying blue collar work a girl can get. Period. (Aside from possibly shucking crabs in Alaska, or working on oil rigs, but how many girls are willing to do those things?)

There's a great HBO series on the porn industry that really gets to the heart of the matter. Porn is a high-paying, horribly unglamorous, ridiculously depressing field that's been giving off a glamorous, wholly fictitious public image in recent years. In reality, porn performers treat their jobs like 9-to-5 office work. There's no passion involved whatsoever.

You know... I thought that slightly filtered sunlight you see through the windows in all those amateur porn movies looked familiar. Ahhh L.A. I only grew up there though and moved a long time ago, so a guided tour would still be fun.

A very small portion of those women also go into modelling, but the standards are a little higher there in terms of looks. Sadly most women who end up stripping instead of doing porn end up sex-for-pay anyway, just isn't normally recorded. I know a guy who worked as a bouncer for a members only strip club in Texas. The rates he quotes for some stuff was insane to me. Bareback (no condom) anal was $750.00 a pop. Some girls had regular clients who came in every week and paid $3,000.00 for an hour of dancing (one guy always met his girl in the shower room... she reminded him of his daughter.) Even cheap strip club girls can make 60k+, the high-end strip clubs you're looking at 150k+.
