| I could go on and on about why Macs (mostly their users though) annoy me But I'll give props to Apple. They took the organized religion business model and applied it to high tech consumer goods |

| uh yeah? mac is for retards who want their pc to look nice. windows is for people too stupid/lazy to run linux (or want to game). there's absolutely no functional reason to buy a mac over windows. zero.none. |

+8 Internets | From my experience, Macs seem to appeal to people with little to no education on computers that forms a corollary with their need to try and be trendy. Your mileage may vary. |

| In high school and for part of my university days, I was all about building the 'gaming rig' to run the latest flavor of Windows and whatever was the game of the moment. I then passed through a Windows/Linux dual-boot phase as I started to code more and more, eventually purging myself of Windows entirely and leaving an obnoxious Linux elitist by the time I graduated. You'd think, perhaps, that nearly a decade as a UNIX systems administrator would have solidified that position. Somewhere along the line, I started to look at a computer less as a extension of my e-peen or ideology and more more as a tool for getting something done. For the overwhelming majority of what the non-gamer uses a computer for, OSX is an amazing tool. Windows 7 may end up being another excellent tool. If it is, that'll be wonderful for the folks who can't stomach a Mac for whatever reason. If not, that's ok too because I'm quite satisfied with my two-game wonder MacBook Pro (TF2 and EvE, for the curious). I do, however, find it quite amusing how people can go all 'Town Hell' and 'Tea-Partier' at the mere mention of Apple. There really are better things to get worked up over. |

| Mac's are perfectly fine for your average consumer looking for a solid anti-idiot system for large amounts of cash. In fact I would go so far as to recommend it for you average consumer. For computer users even slightly above average? Horrible choices. There isn't a single benefit that Mac's offer that PC's can;t offer at a much cheaper price with a tiny amount of brain cell effort.

Or scripting in perl? Or something like: grep 'from=<' mail.log | awk '{ print $7 }' | sort | uniq -c | head? In most of those cases, doing that on a Window box is a pain in the ass. Possible? Sure... but it certainly isn't built around it to the degree that OSX is. For the 'average' bearded UNIX guy out there OSX is a better tool than any Windows OS is. Does that mean it's a better OS in any absolute sense? No. It would suggest you need to be a bit more careful about throwing around terms like 'computer users even slightly above average', however. | |

| But windows can do it at a much cheaper price considering your not buying overpriced apple products to do something a 300$ windows laptop can do. And with the tiny amount of brain cell work it takes to google how to do it in windows. And while following step by step google instructions may take a MINUSCULE amount of more effort then doing it quickly in OSX it is still something your not likely to be doing on a regular basis. I'm sure you can spend all day trying to invent complicated situations that are one time benefits in Mac's favor but it takes all of a 5 second google search to find a program or instructions on how to do it in windows nevermind the the other benefits windows has over apple. Firefox + noscript + common sense solves 99% of windows virus potential problems. Not buying windows because of virus infection potential is only an excuse for your average braindead consumer. (Nearly everyone who would benefit from a mac!) Oh you can still get infected sure but I am sure I am not the only one here who has run without virus problems for years on common sense alone.
