You are just making excuses for the imperfect, spiteful God that you worship. The God you talk about, both in these examples and in your so-called defenses, sounds more like a 5 year old that isn't getting his way.

That cartoon made me look up the Luke passages. New International edition had this in it:

Quote:
25Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple. 27And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
I told my suicidal friend who hates his family that he is, in fact, a christian after all.

Let me save you the trouble.

It'll be 20 pages of people generally agreeing with eacthother that religion is silly but arguing over semantic differences in what constitutes morality, a handful of people will post about how enriched their lives have become because they aren't shackled down by having to dress up for an hour on Sundays and various image macro's that we've seen 300 times before will get posted. Cosmic zombie Jesus is probably due to be posted next.

We'll get several spiral topics, such as the inevitable "religion is the source of all wars and man being mean to eachother. If we would all be embrace Richard Dawkins (and more importantly buy his books because he's totally in it just to educate us all and not to make money on the self-righteousness of stupid people)" tangent.

I'll then point out that we'll also have to be rid of patriotism because it's the -exact- same thing as religion. Blind devotion to a formless entity because of some imaginary sense of purpose it gives you. Oh, also you give offerings and the clergy sleeps with boys.

Then someone will start going on and on and on about how they're upset that religious people keep pushing their will on you. Someone will point out that it's really no different then what people do on a daily basis regardless of religious intent. They'll get neg internets from someone telling them to leave them alone and shut the fuck up and the tree of irony will grow another beautiful leaf.

Then, a few months (or the same fucking day once in awhile) later, some asshole decides to post a new thread about "LOL LOOK WHAT RELIGIOUS PEOPLE BELIEVE/DO!" and we start up all over again as if that stupid shit should come as a shock to us anymore. Pro-tip, 90% of people are normal, fine human beings regardless of religious intent or background. The remaining 10% crazies will do whatever the fuck is convenient to be a bag of crazy, whether that's channeling god or hosting a nationally syndicated republican based radio talk show or begging us to leave Brittney alone.

Oh, and for what it's worth...

Your missing the point were the same internet arguments happen ever closer and closer together, causing time and space to loose cohesion and making the difference between agnostics and atheists to divide by zero, to almost the whole thing.

Oh btw rape is against the book of law

except when Job tried to give his virgin daughters to the mob, in place of the two angels disguised as humans, and except when those same two daughters RAPED THEIR OWN FATHER.

Oh and in Judges, when instead of the old man giving the young noble who came to his home, he offered his daughter and the nobles concubine, the concubine who was subsequently 'known' all night until dawn where she collapsed and died on the footstep of the house.

oh and probably half a dozen that come to me just off the top of my head
