Having run a business with 1000ish employees, I can state that English majors unequivocally make the best hires. They is smart.

Times have changed. Living on your own after college is harder than it used to be (especially right now). Unless you have any idea what it's like to be a recent college graduate in these times than I suggest you shut the fuck up asap before your epeen causes you to say any more dumb shit. If you didn't know (you clearly didn't), it's much more common to people to move back in post graduation because of rising cost of education, housing, and difficulty in finding a job.

Not only is it a different time but this person probably also lives in a different place from where you did. You realize that cost of housing is different in different places right? Take your reductionist "if I did it, you can do it" mentality, shove it up your ass, and stop posting until you can put together your own original and useful thoughts because you sure as hell aren't doing us any good here.

My GoogleFu is failing me, but there was a study released within the last couple of years that showed that English majors outperformed their Business majors in a Business environment rather consistently.

Your anecdote just means they couldn't find a job they wanted so they want to grad school. Not that they're unemployable, or that when they're employed they are horrible workers. Quite the contrary. And I'd argue that English is a fine pre-law degree to earn; you become more acquainted with the nuances of the English language far more than anyone else. You are forced to hone your rhetorical speaking and writing skills.

Anything English lower than a PHD is a dead certificate. The only jobs they'll really qualify you for are Advertising (in which case they want a business background), Public Relations (Which has its own degree, but if you can impress someone you can get a job in it), Tech Writing (Engineering competency is supposed to be required, but they're getting desperate enough to hire just about anyone), some English programs (although they're generally looking for Education majors at a sub-college level, or PHDs at a college level) and anything that just wants somebody with a degree. It blows goats, but the English Undergrad and Major are just qualifying rounds for the doctorate. And even after you get your doctorate, you're competing with way more people than there are job slots.

You get an English Major because you love literature, not for a high-paying job.

And in today's society, and specifically on this board, if you aren't gunning for something that lets you buy 3 hummers and Ethug with twelve bitches on either arm, you get "lol useless degree."

It's a degree that doesn't get you any respect (outside of your field) or money, so you've really just got to love the content, and be able to be happy with being part of the field.

Also, at our University a lot of English Majors end up in Business Grad school when they realize the aforementioned stuff, and they tend to do well. About 80% (My Magical Makemup Numbers Are Superior!) of the people working on a business degree nowadays are slack-asses on the "party degree," who have no clue what they actually want to do in life, so you don't have much competition to get the faculty on your side if you're willing to give it your best.

Also, move out with her so that you can recieve the crushing, rage-infusing experience of having your GF sleep with some other guy after you've put all your money into a place to live with her. And then she'll dump you. And want her new boyfriend to come to the appt. It's a good life experience :P
