| Projection TV convergance problem - I call upon SS Hey all, doign work on my loft and am ganna make it into a guestoom/game room where i am ganna put my old consoles like my xbox ps2 and n64- i have a little 19inch SD tv- i found a 50 inch rear projection old school HD tv at a thrift store for like 60$ but needs convergance done. Is this something done in software? or can I open it up and readjust- the convergance is not that much off, and has the typical suckass view from left/right but straight on its fine- I belive its the same as what my uncle has for their main tv. I can find out its make/model etc tomrrow- I think its a 52" panasonic My idea, 60$ hell worth a shot- if I get it to work super good, all the better. and +internets to all! Thanks for the help in advance.

+3 Internets | Call around could swear my old roomate had his Cleaned and realigned etc for like 50 or 100 dollars by the Local place he bought it from. Id say make a few calls to a repair shop or local place that sells similiar and see what they want, its worth a shot. |

| You will most likely (You should tell us the model) have two types of convergence menus. One will be in the service menu which I do not recommend you go in unless you really know what you are doing, and another might be in the main menu system. If you have the latter, you should be able to do a convergence yourself. Main menu convergence options are usually only about 16 points or so though, but that will be good enough to fix it up after it has been moved around a lot. I had an old 51" Sony WS510 that I did myself in the service menu, and that was 110 or so points. Give me the model and I will be able to assist you more if you want. I would not pay to have it done - it is very easy to figure out how to do it yourself. The only thing I would pay for is if you own your own home theater room and need it ISF calibrated for everything... But that is only if you have an actual home theater and are very anal about your picture. |

| Ill get the model etc tomrrow and let you know, thanks for the help- I just think it does not have a remote so no ones done it... I think ill pick it up at that. Searches yahoo yeilded that there are sometimes a convergance part of some sort that needs to be replaced along with (someimes) some board- so a little soldering is needed and the parts/kits run 40-90$ either way, i would be a decent TV for about 150$

| Hijacking this thread for a second... Found an ad on craigslist saying, "giving away 51" 5-year old hitachi cause it turns on but the screen stays blank". So, turns out on Monday I'm driving down to pick up a broken 51" projection TV >.> I'm assuming that if there's sound, but no video it's a light bulb(like $150 replacement) and if there's no sound or video, it's a board issue. Am I on the mark? Model #51F500A

| fucking lol. Had the same problem with a projector my family bought a while back. As the other dude said, we called around to some repair shops. All they did was replace the lens and clean the parts inside, was like 200 bucks top, and it worked fine. I bought that shit from the salvation army as well while looking for some formal clothes from the 80's D: |

| Then he can hire an ISF calibrater for his home theater and do the convergence on the old TV himself Quote:
These people might just think it is broke, don't care, don't want to pay a recycling charge, and already have a new one - which would obviously benefit in your favor. One thing I would do though is look to see if you can see any screen burn before picking it up, because it might not be worth your effort. | |

| update: symptom- both up/down and or left/right of mannual convergance adjustmant non responsive My red is WAY off, and the adjustment wont move it left or right- from what I have read I need to replace its IC's they run 20$ about each. I found a guide for the 50inch version of my TV - my plan 1) ask TV repair guy my friend knows how much- ill even just bring him the board (mostly because I dont wanna drag this TV down the stairs again) 2) try it myself :-) if the cost of 1 is within 20$ of 2, I will have a pro do it so, 46" HDTV sup 100$ :-)

| Make sure to replace both IC's and do not forget heatsink compound. It is pretty likely that if you have one bad IC the other will go as well in short order. You will want to do the work yourself - as any repair tech will charge you about $250-400 unless you know of someone that can get you a deal. While you are in there, you may as well dust off the guns. Also, do blue and green convergence work decently? PS: Awesome site for you. | Blue works, left/right up down etc- i alligned it fine- I was planning on replaceing both- found em online for like 17$ - ill have to check that site out. When you say guns- you mean the R,G,B projector things right- i am a noob ;-) ill dust everything and clean it on out. 1 row of solders per chip...yeah I will do that myself rathern than face 200-300$. for a tv that was made on 2002- projection at that, its in good condition and the picture is sharp- just the red shadow is over there and the green/blue is over here lol The green does not have a convergance option- the red and blue converg to the green. thanks again!
