Projection TV convergance problem - I call upon SS

for a tv that was made on 2002- projection at that, its in good condition and the picture is sharp- just the red shadow is over there and the green/blue is over here lol

The green does not have a convergance option- the red and blue converg to the green.

Oops, yeah I meant to make sure the green's grid is where it should be at.

Yep those are the guns. Make sure everything is dusted since you are back there. 6-7 years of use can add mark it down considerably. It can make a big difference in picture quality.

Also, depending on how they bought it, it might have been a floor model which was torched in it's brightness/contrast settings. You do not have to buy anything expensive like AVIA, but a THX test from any THX movie on DVD will do the trick - it will balance the color saturation, picture brightness and contract, etc. And it is free on the DVD

Tonight if I get home from work at a decent time I am going to remove the board and lable the connections.

Then time to order parts :-) I found the IC's for 10$ each plus 10 shipping is the best cost and shipping thus far- I will need to stop by radioshack and get a solder remover tool- and maybe a multi-meter if its not too much- as many guide say to test and if needed replace the little resistor things around the convergance IC's

Removed board, checked all resistor things and they all where in the range as they should be- got my new IC's in - de soldered my old ones removed them cleanly and installed the new ones.

it does the same damn thing!! blue convergance works- the red convergance will not move left/right- could this be a mechanical thing- or is the convergance done all software/digital etc? Should I take it back out- resolder them in again and just hope that works?

Have you tried converging the other two colors on top of it? Or is it so far off they won't?

My friend had a projo TV he got for free and couldn't blue to move to the others and it was because the other two were off and it was blue that was right.

At least... it was in the right spot, it was probably still broken now that I think about it. But it ended up working quite well.

The convergance that this TV has is only blue and red- they converge upon green that is stationary and red/blue converge upon them.

Well, now you have a problem because it is most likely the convergence board itself. And once you replace that, it is very hard to do the work yourself unless you know what you are doing.

some of the other boards say I need to replace the resistors and shit along with the IC convergance chips. I think I am just ganna have my friend come over and help me get this damn thing down stairs and take it to a shop. If I can get the resistors from radioshack I will try and replace them all before I take it to the shop.

If the fix is sub 200 from the shop ill do it- if not /rude/ the TV and donate it to another thrift store :-P and take the beating from my wife :-O lol

But- my soldering skills have improved greatly!

Hey guys, I saw an ad that reminded me of this thread and I figured I'd try asking here if anyone has a suggested course of action.

Here's the description:

hey there a mouth ago i seen this "nice" wide flat screen tv for $350 i turn it on in da store it work great for about 4min after 4 min i shut it off and said id buy it... anyways i got the tv home and pluged it in an it work good for about 10 minz and then the picture just had to much blue and got more blue an then all blue... i looked in the back of it an it seems after it gets warmed up the red an green picture tubes slowly start to fade away as the blue tube gets brighter... i called sony about it and to be honest they didnt know shit about it... all i know is that they dont make parts for it any more, but they can be replaced with a different part or rebuild the part...i got a quote on how much it would cost from a local tv repair shop to fix it an he said about $500 id fix it but im broke these days... over all the tv is in very very good shape...

The tv is a Sony KP57WS500. After Googling, it looks like a lot of people have color issues with their TVs, but I did see this guide which looked like it may be promising. Based on his description, I can't really tell if it's just lines that progressed to full-on blue. I also can't tell if the guide fixes the whole TV being a single color or just TVs with lots of lines. Apparently this particular TV model has lots of issues with the color.

It takes about an hour to get to the pickup location. Do you think it's worth fucking with the TV or is it a waste of time/money?
