LAKE COUNTY - A traffic stop turned into a chase on Highway 29 in North Lakeport Monday morning, according to California Highway Patrol officer Josh Dye.

Upper Lake resident Nathan Brent Pollard, 20, was driving a 1995 red Toyota truck north on Highway 29 near 11th Street when CHP officer Craig Bach pulled him over at 11 a.m. for not having the required mud flaps for his truck, according to Dye.

"The vehicle stopped on the right shoulder and then sped off after the stop," Dye said.

Pending the preparation of a report today, Dye said Tuesday that it appeared that Pollard drove away before Bach approached his vehicle.

Pollard exited on Park Way and turned north on Oak Park Way, according to Dye. Pollard drove approximately 100 yards before he stopped the truck and ran away, leading CHP officers, Lakeport police and Lake County Sheriff's Office deputies on a chase through a residential area.

According to Dye, sheriff's deputies in unmarked vehicles in the area spotted Pollard at 11:50 a.m. and arrested him. The charges include a misdemeanor charge of resisting public peace officers and a felony charge of evading peace officers with disregard for public safety.

Dye said Pollard was not suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. Dye said he had arrested Pollard Jan. 9 on a charge of driving while his license was suspended. Pollard is held at the Lake County Jail on $10,000 bail and is due to appear in court on Thursday.

Couple days in county usually is enough to turn the smart ones around. Even if he is above 20 if this is his first charge ever it'll be like 3 days JT and then it gets wiped off his record for a fee (with a decent lawyer obviously).

Now if he isn't smart and still doesn't take it seriously then prepare now because hes going to be in and out regularly till that 3rd strike hits.

Depending on the if the prosecutor is a douche bag or not the 100 yards could turn in to felony evasion, or if he has no priors he might get a way with misdemeanor(b) fleeing. all in all just have your brother plea bargain and he should get probation and a small fine.
