The situation is fishy in my opinion. He "didn't know" his daughter had been having the guy over for 18 months, but this is the first time he heard them despite "walking his dog at 4 AM everyday"? Unless the girl was mute, I can't imagine her saying nothing when her father barges in, hits the guy, chases him through the house, and calls 911.

Dad hears something, calls 911, looks through rooms for intruder, goes in daughters room, daughter screams (cause her dad just walked in on her) and he smacks the kid in the head with a pipe.. seems like a pretty plausible scenario to me.. its not like he repeatedly beat the kid with the pipe for any length of time.

Well it is a lot more complicated than that. Some states are somewhat complicated and can vary a great deal form other states. Florida is a bit more lenient, but the idea that "It's all cool as long as you are under 18 in the US" isn't true. Also many states are pretty harsh when anyone involved is under the age of 12.

If he dialed 911 first then he's fucked legally. Taking the time to make a phone call instead of insuring the well being of his family basically proves he didn't consider it to be a life-and-death scenario and thus the use of deadly force (even if it didn't actually kill him, a pipe could have) is in no way legal.

Since that's obviously not the case, this seems to come down to 2 people each doing something that from their perspective is legal. The dad is defending his home/family and the boy is having a legal consensual sexual encounter. And since only the boy suffered physically or emotionally between the 2 of them, it would make sense that the jury would side with him. How is it fair that he do nothing wrong but still get beaten by a pipe even if the dad didn't do anything wrong either?

The dad has got to be at least responsible for medical bills if the jury has any brains.

BTW .. anyone saying the kid didn't belong there needs to reexamine their notions of personal privacy. The girl made a legal choice by allowing the boy in for sex, something the father has no say in.

The problem is he does have say, she is a minor under his control.

My favorite texas story is the guy who called 911 cause his neighbor was being robbed, told the lady they were leaving and then, cause the cops hadn't arrived yet, gunned them down in the front yard, while the 911 lady was still on the line.

Then went free.

In many states, lethal force to stop a felony is perfectly legal. That is how it should be.
