Our most popular local brewery is Big Rock Brewery, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. . The Grasshopper and Honey Brown stand out as the best for me.

If any of you end up in Calgary at some point Bottlescrew Bills has over 150 different beers from Canada and around the world. Here is a list of them if you want to look over them and make some suggestions on what I should try next time I am there.

I have to say the best beer I have had while out and about was in Bavaria. I believe the brewery is out of Munich.

Augustiner, in all its delicious glory.

I have a fondness for Tuborg at the moment, rather refreshing out of a bottle while the weather is hot at the moment, isnt a local beer but nice nonetheless!

ugh, Honey Brown, really Ichu? Everyone I know hates that shit. At the Edmonton Folk Festival where they graciously allow me to serve (and consume) large quantities of alcohol, they stopped bringing in kegs of Honey Brown because no one was buying it. Everyone went with Trad or Grasshopper. Last year they replaced it with shit, I dunno, another one of their beers that's much better than Honey Brown. That shit is just too sweet. Hell one year we got the lines for a Honey Brown tap crossed and accidentally hooked up one keg of Trad and one keg of Grass. Combined they looked exactly the same as Honey Brown, and no one complained about the taste as we elected to just leave the kegs as is.

Big Rock's got some fantastic lesser known brews as well, like Warthog's and McNally's. A 6 pack of McNally's (7% alc/vol) will typically put me on my ass quite nicely.

Haha to each their own. I typically don't buy it for home but when i'm out for dinner sometimes it really hits the spot.

I haven't had a whole lot of experience with the rest of them. The Warthog is good. I thought the XO was crap, maybe it was because I had it out of a can.

awesome thread.

around philly we have two great local breweries; victory and flying fish.

Victory Brewing Co. :: Taste Victory

Flying Fish • Beers

from victory brewing i've personally had all of the "victory favorites", storm king and v-12. i honestly enjoyed them all. i'm not going to try to describe the taste of them though because i'm sure their website would do a much better job of that, just rest assured that its quality beer. you can have a lot of fun with the golden monkey and v-12 because their alcohol content is at least twice as much as regular beer (12% for the V-12). give a few of those to some girls while conveniently "forgetting" to tell them about the much higher alcohol content (you can hardly tell) and watch the magic happen.

flying fish is great stuff also. i've personally only had the extra pale ale and the summer seasonal but its really been getting a reputation around here. its excellent for cooking with too. again, the website would do a much better job of explaining the different beers than i would.

anyway this sounds like a great idea. if anyone would be interested in trading some cases i would be all for it.

I'm still pissed that they closed down the Independance Brew Pub. They had the best stout I've ever drank.

I moved to Colorado from Maryland 10 years ago. The biggest and best suprise about the new area was discovering that all beer is not created equal. I like all of New Belgium's beers (Fattire is very popular). Also, can't go wrong with Mead...what was that Super Mario game knockoff on SEGA that used Mead as the characters drink?

Denver hosts the Great American Beer festival every year. Its like the movie Beerfest without the Euro fags. The year that Sam Adams introduced 'Utopia' my friends kept giving me their free samples. I got all whiskey drunk and hard to handle. Fuck that shit.

Here is a list of some local micro breweries. Seriously, too many to keep up with:

Colorado Brewpubs and Microbreweries

Pick one you think looks good and I'd be happy to trade/ship .

Local Atlanta Brewery, have some good stuff. 420 and Blue are exceptional.

Shiner Bock/Blonde, Guiness, etc. are always favorites.

At least drink Moosehead, Sleeman's, or Big Rock from time to time to support a couple of the only remaining independent medium sized brewers in Canada.
The Amsterdam brewery here in Toronto makes some great beers. Amsterdam nut brown is fantastic.

I really dig hefeweizen (unfiltered wheat). I tried this UFO stuff from the Harpoon brewery in Vermont and it was pretty good. I forget the one American micro hefe I had on tap one time that I really liked. Totally spaced on the name, maybe someone can come up with it. But, yeah. Hefeweizen. Beautiful, cloudy, hefeweizen. Yum.

Stone is less than 20 mins away, heh. I live on the IPA at home and usually have the Arrogant when I go to the pub. Aside from Stone, I'd say that Rogue is probably my next favorite; helps that my brother lives 15 mins from that brewery too, although I need to visit him more often! Rogue's Imperials are stellar.

I can't really get into IPA's other than maybe one to jump start me. Maybe if it is really cold out or something. I live pretty close to Dogfishead whose 60 and 90 minute IPA's are award winning, but I can't get into drinking a one IPA after another, which is how I like to drink beer...

My favorite is a combination of these two beers mixed together, although they do stand on their own quite deliciously as well:
