| I went to middle school and high school in the 90's. There was definitely no one pregnant in middle school that I can remember, ever. I used to go to little parties in middle school on occasion, and maybe someone would sneak a bottle of old alcohol, but I don't even remember anyone getting drunk. I'm sure maybe SOMEWHERE in middle school someone got a handjob or something, but it was by no means widespread. Throughout highschool, I think I can only remember a couple that were pregnant, and I'm certain no one in my grade was. (One of the girls who got pregnant was the sister of a girl I dated a year after highschool.) In 11th / 12th grade we had parties constantly at a guy's house whose parents were perpetually gone, with 50+ people. We drank a lot, and sure, some people fooled around there, but still, no one got pregnant. This was all pre-internet popularity, pre-social websites. I graduated highschool in 1998, and a lot of kids then still didn't even have an e-mail address, and there was no such thing as a social networking website, Youtube, or a place to put videos and/or pictures of you acting like a slut at 12 years old. Maybe I'm just generalizing based on the constant stream of media that relates to the subject, but it seems like 12-18 year olds are far, far more sexual than they were even 10 odd years ago, and I think it has a LOT to do with the internet. |

+4 Internets | I graduated high school in '91 and people were getting pregnant all over the place. I'm sure it was worse than it was in even '81 much less '51, and it might be worse today, but I think you are off base on your assumptions. |

| Teen pregnancies are actually way down, historically, and have been going down steadily since the 70s. There was a slight uptick in the past two years, but nothing major. It's just another case of over-reporting. Last edited by Mist : 06-22-2008 at 08:53 AM. |

+12 Internets | Any of you who thinks no one at your high school was pregnant is almost definitely mistaken. It's not like all idiot girls who get pregnant run around advertising it.

+5 Internets | I know for a fact that nobody at my highschool got pregnant while I was there (unless they kept it secret and got an early abortion I guess), but it happened at plenty of other schools in the area. I don't think it has to do with the internet, or that kids are somehow more sexualized, teenagers just like sex, hormones and all that, it's completely natural. |

It's completely natural to want a baby so bad you fuck a hobo. I agree... stupidity is natural. Wait, isn't everything natural?

+5 Internets | Ok, there were no obvious and open cases of pregnancy, as are being discussed here. If it happened, it was quickly delt with via an abortion. Maybe things are different in Aus? I mean it's not like it's terribly hard to just use a condom. Mistakes happen, but not 4 a year or whatever ridiculous number the school in that article is claiming. |

+3 Internets | Not going to argue a contentious point of philosophy with someone who calls me a dumbass in Screenshots of all places. If you'd actually like to discuss this, make a thread in General. |

Why don't we also mandate that couples who are gainfully employed and highly educated have offspring whether they want to or not as well? You realize they are weakening the gene pool with their selfish "decision" to exercise free will and not procreate right? If you are for some sort of imposed sterilization then you are for totalitarianism, pure and simple. This is a biological imperative that human beings have a fundamental right to, regardless of how irresponsible or stupid they may be. Unwanted and irresponsible pregnancies are a problem sure, but it is a human problem in every way. You don't go about solving it by attempting to legislate or ban the human aspects of it, as flawed as they may seem to you.
