I use a standard MSN messenger, but really only because my boss and co-worker use it. I pretty much stopped using it to chat with friends years ago. I remember my 300k-ish ICQ number, last time I checked a few years ago it still had my name and such attached, but I couldn't for the life of me get the password reset.

Is it possible to make Digsby look a little... I don't know, cleaner? The screenshots I've seen of it make it look like a clusterfuck. I like how clean and simple Trillian is.

Hey, thanks for this thread.

I've been wondering about stuff like this - I use the latest version of AIM and to tell you the truth, minus the fact it's gotten bloated through the updates its actually a much better program now then it ever was.

I think I may give this digsby a try, looks pretty cool.

I use MSN messenger as well. More out of habit than anything else. I agree it is bloated and horrid in many aspects, but much of it is fixable with this little program.

Mess Patch Link!

I gives you almost a 100 additional settings that MSN doesn't normally allow for. You can kill all adds, their windows, add or remove buttons and their position on the windows etc. It really does a great job of making MSN leaner.

There's a similar program called A-Patch but I don't have any experience with that.

I use pidgin, while the crashes can be quite annoying when they happen, its a very slick and clean UI and works very well for me.

I've got a question for you people with pidgin crashes. Did you happen to uninstall the GDI+ thing it puts on your computer to run? I know I did once and that's the only time I've ever had crashes with it. It's pretty easy to do if you're scrolling through Add/Remove, it definitely looks fishy. Right now mine says:

GDI+ Runtime 2.12.8 rev a (remove only)

Nope, and you mean GTK.. which is the core of Pidgin =P That handles the UI part.

Pidgin has really bad memory leaks, and when it gets pretty high it just crashes.

Okies, so I mentioned Adium. I have it tweaked so that the contact window is a translucent dark pane. The dots to the left indicate their status. The IM window itself is pretty modifiable. I have mine set to look nerdish and hackerish. I know, I know... nerd fantasy etc etc.

Here you go.
