Anyone hear from Regime? He was teaching in Chengdu, where the Earthquake's epicenter was.

Well that certainly takes this thread from suck to fuck in a pretty quick second. I really hope he's ok...

I'm in Shanghai for work which is about a thousand miles away from the epicenter. It wasn't bad here but our office is on the 28th floor so we got some weird swaying. I thought I was getting dizzy, felt like I was going to pass out and fall out of my chair, then I looked up and everybody was like, "WHAA!" and we all ran down 28 flights of stairs. It was sort of a neat feeling at first, then you realize you're standing on 28 stories of dirt and bamboo that some old Chinese man stacked up many years ago and there are a few moments of "maybe I'm about to die".

It's pretty fucked up over closer to the epicenter though, it sounds like there are still a bunch of people buried and people they can't get to so who knows how many are actually dead. Hopefully Regime's alright.

Generally, the architecture of schools makes them rather weak against earthquakes :/

I am ok because I am back in the states. I was on Skype program talking to the wife when it happened the second time (aftershock). Fucking worst thing I ever saw. Been up for 2 days talking to her since the family is sleeping in rotations.Everyone in Chengdu is safe but the small city I been to many times (Dujiangyang) popular tourist site, is pretty bad. By bad I mean there was 2 people from like the entire graduating class that survived. The wife and her family our ok, the spent the night in cars.

Chengdu got rocked but the only ones that died were people who thought the building was coming down, so they jumped.

There are still people buried in the small mountain town of Wenchuan. Majority of the deaths were under 18 since it was schools and hospitals with most of the deaths. Since I am claustrophobic, i cannot think of a worse way to die. I know I have seen kids this winter with Santa claus (some Canadian guy who was a fat English teacher and his flock of kids laughing with their American Flag bat) that are gone now. I remember them saying "hello" laughing and running away than coming back. Most of them are dead and it kinda sucks. I see their faces sometimes.

Man that seriously sucks. your wife was there when it happened? I'm seriously glad she's okay...what sad news though, with the schools and the hospitals going first :/
