I love how half the stories here begin with ONCE WHEN I WAS 9!

Yeah, once when I was nine years old, and half asleep, and medicated, and looking out of the corner of my eye, I saw my mom's grandmother's twin sister's ghost spelling out R-U-B-E on my alphabet blocks.

I saw a ghost very vividly once.

Still dont believe in them. It was probably my excessive abuse of alcohol that lead to it.

This thread is now about scary stories. I love these. I turn off all the lights and leave my window slightly open so the breeze blows my window shades around for full effect. I als sit on a bucket to catch my brick shaped excrement.

Have some more:

There's a small, inconspicious building called "Padraic Willoughsby and Co." in the industrial district of Birmingham, UK. Most of the time, its doors are locked and the windows are draped. However, on February 29th of every leap year, there will be a small plastic container outside the front door containing business cards. On the front of the card it says in large capital letters, "PADRAIC WILLOUGHSBY AND CO. ENGLAND'S THAUMATURGICAL SPECIALISTS". On the back, in nearly inelligibly small type it says "The blood of the innocent."

Any night after midnight one can come to Paidraic Willoughsby and Co. and slide their card through the door, and the door will instantly unlock. Inside there is an empty room with white walls. No light reaches this room, except for a small sliver from the other end of the room. When you approach this room you will find that it is actually another door. When you knock on it, a voice will ask "What makes a man become exalted?" and you must respond with the phrase on the back of the card: "The blood of the innocent." The door will open and you will come into another room, a kind of lounge. Inside it you will find around 5-10 people, depending on the night, sitting around smoking and drinking brandy, all in late Edwardian period dress. There is absolutely no conversation at all in this room and, it is nearly silent except for the phonograph which plays the exact same record over and over, ad infinitum. If you attempt to speak to one of the patrons, they will promptly ignore you and pretend as if you were not there.

Towards the south wing of the room you will find a large, round table, slightly different from the others. On it will be a quill pen and a document. The document shows all of your personal information: name, birth date, place of residence, criminal record, greatest fears, etc. At the bottom of the document is a long line that asks for your signature. No one knows what happens after you sign it.
Alright, one more I just found since I'm having fun scaring myself.

Quote:
If you stand alone at the corner of Church St. and Market St. in Charleston, South Carolina at 3 AM, you see a man coming down Church St. wearing a black hat and black cape with stringy white hair and weathered skin. He'll stop at one of the two corners directly across from where you are standing and start to walk the corner directly opposite from where he is standing. When he reaches about halfway (dead center of the intersection) and nobody else has arrived, he'll stop, turn, and look directly at you.

If you do not blink for roughly 20-30 seconds he'll tip his hat to you and walk along his way, disappearing into the dark shadows of the trees that line the streets. Nobody knows what happens if you follow him.

If you do blink before he tips his hat, the very first thing you will see is the man standing directly in front of you. He'll grin maliciously at you and draw a blade hidden in the shaft of the cane and slash you across your throat, but you will not feel a thing. You will, however, pass out and remain in a comatose state until the sun rises over the horizon.

For the next six nights, you will have a recurring dream of the man walking down the street, appearing suddenly before you, and slashing your throat. On the seventh night, the events will replay the same up until he stops in the middle of the intersection. At this point, he'll say, "It's been fun playing with you, boy, but now it's time for you to go. Don't ever let me see you again." He'll then tip his hat and walk away before you wake up.

Nobody knows what happens if you visit the corner a second time.
edit: I should say, I don't believe in ghosts and think most of it is bullshit. Paranormal activity is mostly hearsay from superstitious people who would feel blessed if their dog's asshole looked like Jesus. That being said, scary experiences and bizarre supernatural occurrences are fun to read about.

I've never seen a ghost, and I don't believe in them; however, I do believe in the eternal gullibility of the human psyche.

I saw him once. Sure I'm blind in one eye, and my other eye was infected that day from picking at it, and I was tired, and I'd been swimming in a pool with too much chlorine, and that was the hour my glasses were at Lenscrafters but I seen that fish!

I dont see how someone would be sure if they have seen a ghost even if they had. There is a list of things i would be thinking before i concluded i was seeing a "ghost" when people are certain of their strange experiences i automatically doubt. That said I have had several experiences that i cant readily explain and probably have some pretty exotic explanation.

God, was I in for an unpleasant though not unexpected evening.

What I want to know is in what way are these people skeptics?

How can a skeptic use an EMF meter to try and find a ghost?

Why would a skeptic use an instrument designed to detect AC current in common household frequencies? Why would a skeptic use them oblivious to their proper use? Why would a skeptic carrying around an EMF meter that has a fluctuation consider that a sign of the ghost considering the vast, vast amount of electronic devices they are toting around and that surround them. Most importantly why would a skeptic assume that an EMF fluctuation is the result of a hitherto unknown entity acting through a hitherto unknown force producing a hitherto undetected source of electricity instead of one of the dozens of electronic devices around them? I guess you can't get any more parsimonious than that....

The exact same argument goes for thermal cameras, ion detectors, and whatever crazy implausible shit they happen to be peddling.

Then there's the electronic voice phenomena. In which I'm to believe that through completely magical means ghosts can speak into recording devices
in frequencies undetectable to the human ear but playback perfectly well on the chosen medium despite that device having been designed to explicitly pick up a certain range of frequencies and play back those frequencies at a similar frequency. Basically they made a glorified wah petal. Awesome.

Then there's the video where we see a shady figure stroll by or a chair move or whatever the fuck. Let's ignore the fact that there is zero transparency between the TAPS guys and what I see on TV. These guys immediately jump to supernatural conclusions for things that have perfectly valid natural explanations.

Hey, that chair moved all by itself! Yeah, I could believe that an entity for which no empirical evidence exists operating through unknown phenomena moved a chair. Or I could believe that someone tied a string to it and pulled on it. Furthermore everyone involved has incentive to pull of such a hoax. The ghost hunters to guys for ratings, interest, and the general health of the show, and the owners of the haunted place for increased interest in a bustling paranormal tourism business. It's not hard to pick the more likely scenario.

Of course a real skeptic would be bothered by the whole lack of parsimony.

Fuck Ghost Hunter's for selling skepticism instead of what they're really doing: the same old shady paranormal dance people have been doing since time immemorial---shilling contrived mystery for money.
I wasnt going to comment on it but yes. They are just a bunch of pseudo-scientific cranks wandering around DO YOU FEEL THAT BRO ENERGIEZ! 7.4!!.

They used to bring several different psychics and a demonologist with them for fuck sakes. They offer all sorts of metaphysical explanations for how ghosts operate and various other silly shit. How can one be skeptical of ghosts when they already express their belief that they exist. That psychic phenomena is real etc. And that they already have a fundamental grasp on how these things function.

You can even watch their little circle jerk as they communally reinforce whatever experience they claim to have had. Besides they are fagots and run away from scary shit. Ghost hunters that run the fuck away from scary shit.
Having to explain why that show is shit infuriates me. Almost as bad as explaining why john edwards is a fucking fraud.

I've always found Ghost Hunters to be very good about ruling out all logical/reasonable explanations before discussing a paranormal one.

A ghost use to live in my closet. It looked human but was covered in sickly yellow, translucent, wet skin and looked bony and frail with a head that looked a bit like a skull but it was covered in skin and had sunken black tiny watery beady eyes. Mouth had no teeth and the nose looked like a skull but it had a little bulbous nodule of yellow flesh coming up from the bottom covering the lower half of the hole. It had very long skinny appendages (15+ feet) which made it fill the entire room. It had to contort at a weird angle to actually fit the long spindly legs in, it had to kind of slide it's back against the ceiling to reposition as it came towards me. Periodically it would stop and quiver rapidly looking around.

It hung over me in bed. It had a foot or so long tongue lolled out and drug across my face. Then it took my hand and stuck it into its chest which had a consistency similar to meatloaf. It escorted me to the kitchen where it took out some deli roast beef I had in the refrigerator and placed my free hand on it. The meat putrefied to a gelatin like texture and my hand slit through it. After that it went back to my room and left me in the kitchen. I washed my hand and watched the 5 o'clock PBS news on the couch.

Kinda weird I guess.

yeah no shit, I swear when I was in high school I would have a CD player that would play Zeppelin II every morning at 6am even if the CD wasn't in the player

There's weird shit that happens that sometimes can't be explained (or we just might be too lazy to do any real scientific study/research about), but is it the work of some dead bitch?

fuck no
