Right, I'm talking more about composition. If you bring too many of a certain troop type, or not enough of another, it's "cheesy" and somehow unsportsmanlike. It doesn't matter if it's perfectly legal within the ruleset you're using. Essentially trying to win by making certain strategic choices -- in a strategy game -- is considered bad sportsmanship in many cases. I am absolutely all for rewarding good sportsmanship under its true definition.

I remember going down to a tournament once where I won a painting award and went like 6-0. I ended up placing like 10th because of the way they rewarded "sportsmanship", which basically involved friends voting for each other. And it's not like I was being a dick. I was a shy, polite little kid. I didn't go to the tournament with a dozen of my buddies though, so I lose.

Basically Warhammer is more of a fun hobby, where as a game like say MTG is closer to a competitive "sport."

I would say Magic the Gathering is a much more carefully planned and tidy strategy game. Warhammer's rules are needlessly complex and by doing that they filled it up with so many unintended holes. Or even worse, rules that are so silly they bog games down and don't do much to add to the fun.

Khârn the betrayer is a pretty surprising guy, he pretty well known for it, but most of the time people ignore the humorous side of these outburtss of temporary insanity.

One time, after overrunning a refugee camp that hadn't been evacuated in time we decided to engage in some party games to relieve the monotony of senseless slaughter: spin the child, break the child, shoot the child, child of fortune etc. Now after we begin one of the little girls starts crying after her friend gets nailed by a 100 yard headshot from a lasgun. This is pretty impressive considering the general state of most of my regiment’s lasguns. Lately I've taken to just throwing mine at the enemy and finding a corpse to hide under if required to use it in any kind if defensive fashion.

Anyways the ace yells "Wooo! One shot!"

So, the ace is getting high-fives cheers when Khârn appears behind him. He picks up the lasgun from the ground and goes up the kid and gives her a hug - and the lasgun. We're all a bit confused at this point, anyways, he gives her the lasgun and points it at the guy, then he tells her to pull the trigger...

And it blows of her arm! Turns out the joker had overloaded the las-cell! You shoulda seen it! The little girl with her arms blown clean off, waving them around, looking absolutely dumbfounded with pain.

So he decides to be merciful, he shoves a krak grenade down her throat and starts to count down from 10. We're all finding this hilarious; most of the guys can barely stand. But hanging around Khârn so long has given me a sort of 6th sense, so I wiped the tears from my eye and started to edge away a bit. Then Khârn gets down to 3 and he DROPKICKS the asphyxiated little amputee towards the group of hapless guardsmen! Killing the whole group in one shot!

"WOOO!" he yells, fist in the air. "ONE SHOT!"

The guy’s priceless I tell ya. Priceless.
