Once you finish residency (3-5 years) you get a huge pay increase, as you become either an attending physician or go into private practice.
Once you become a doctor (hopefully surgeon) you really should try to find this guy and see what you can do to help him.

Eomer - your house is awesome.

I am incredibly jealous of the prices of some of your houses. I sure love San Diego, but I'm definitely not coming anywhere near buying a house anytime soon. =/

Millie, your place was hot too.

Biltmore estate is nice, but I prefer waking up to this, quite frankly... Just add some Wifi, some pop-up flat screens somewhere and you're set.

Oh and, even though the Biltmore Estate is awesome and tries to mimic French Renaissance Architecture (does it ok) you can tell it's not in France and it's not authentic.

You know, if you're one of those artistic crafty fuckers you can truly make a beautiful living space. Like the one in your pictures, with the carved wood stuff.

My uncle is a self-taught carpenter (wood artist or whatever), and he can literally do anything. My parents recently built a very, very expensive house and he did all of the wood work inside. It's gorgeous, his hand carvings, cabinetry, etc, is literally among some of the most beautiful woodwork I've ever seen.

He has a small house, but it is completely pimped out, for example, he's religious and at the entry to each of the bedrooms there is a cross inlaid into the floors, but it's like flush or whatever, it's amazing.

And people who are painters, they can do all these amazing fascinating things, etc. I really wish I was one of those arty people!

I've always wanted the NYC high rise style place. 30th floor with a view of the park. Then have my bedroom completely devoid of furniture except for a mattress on the floor in the center of the room, no frame or bed posts. One entire wall of the room is a big, long ass window, like 50 feet wide overlooking the park. Fucking pimp ass balla shit there.

Hey what's it like living in HK? Can you get by with only speaking english? Is rent expensive?

hk is pretty unique as far as cities go. its very expat friendly, all the signs are in english and a lot of people do speak english.

rent is quite expensive, about on par with new york. a decently located 500 sqf. apartment will rent for around 2,000 USD per month on the island itself. a nice 1,500 sqft. will rent for around 7-8,000 USD per month in a decent area, or you can buy for 2 or 3 million USD. a 500-600 sqft. apt in a good area will run you 1 million plus. its not uncommon to pay 1500 USD or more per square foot.

This is what you can end up with after about 1.3 million US dollars here in Japan (Live in totsuka which is like a 15 minute drive from Yokohama)...

Basically we used to own a house just like the neighbors that you can see in the pics but with the parents getting older the wife wanted to tear it down and build a 2 generation home. (this is semi-common here) So we tore it down and built this concrete home which ran like 500 grand.

Figure the land goes for about the same price and other costs such as the original house and it all adds up to quite a bit of cash for not a whole lot of house.

and i guess i broke the thread...hmm those are some big pics /
