I'm glad to live in Kentucky. I've been house hunting lately..looking to buy in spring or summer and getting a feel for the market.

2 acres of land and 1800 sq ft for $25,000 in need of minor and cosmetic repairs. Fuck yeah!

It's incredibly depressing planning a move from Orem, Utah to L.A. btw. Could get a 3br 1600ft townhouse for $1100 here

Where in LA?

edit: Ah, Long Beach area I take it? I live out near CSULB, renting a room in a house atm. Location makes quite a difference as far as cost goes. Downtown is kind of weird as there's nice and ghetto out that way. As far as legitimacy goes, that ad you linked was good, from my experience it's pretty easy to spot the fake ads. They have small, super generic photos and the text generally doesn't read quite right/too good to be true. Feel free to PM me if you have any more specific questions.

Moving into this loft in two weeks. All the furniture in the picture is the previous tenant, so we'll definitely be redecorating. Also, we're painting. Probably going with a nice shade of dark gray (Artist Loft color by Ralph Lauren) with dark red accent walls by the TV and bed, and kitchen.

Location is Banker's Hill, San Diego. Blocks from downtown, blocks from Hillcrest, one block from Balboa Park. 1000 square feet, 2 bathrooms.

Paint color recommendations appreciated.
Cuppycake. I think we have the same kitchen. Same type / color of marble and same color of wood cabinets. I would recommend a dark gray. It would match the darker colors in the marble and it gives the kitchen a nice minimalist vibe which would be perfect for a loft like that.

Very nice place... I like it!

I would post pictures of my place, but it is kind of depressing. Not the actual condo-- it is beautiful (first floor of a three story home). Just the fact that I have a little over 1000 sq ft, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom and I paid $399k. If I was living back home in Nebraska I could have built a castle for that kind of cash.

Heh, but that's in Boston yes? Good location? In Edmonton, which is not exactly Boston (think, I don't know, Cincinatti or Cleveland or something, but colder) a nice condo downtown starts at $400/sq ft. 1000 square foot, post WWII houses in mature neighbourhoods go for $300k and up.

I'll be working in Hollywood, so the closer, the better.

Would $1200 a month seem average for 900sq? How much difference does the neighborhood make?

example: OPEN HOUSE - Saturday 02/07/2009 - 1-3 pm
That one looks real to me. The no assigned parking/only street parking is a huge detractor when you live close to the beach. Plus that place is pretty outdated.

Email the owners and ask them questions. It's usually really easy to figure out which ones are scams.

Definitely closer if possible, traffic is generally atrocious.

That doesn't seem fake to me either, but I guess it could be. I haven't lived in the LA area since 2003 or 2004 and that part of Long Beach looks okay but the parts I've been to were pretty shitty. Location is a pretty big deal for price. Generally it seems like the fake craigslist apartment postings get flagged pretty quick.

I've lived in San Francisco since then and it's worse up here. Just got a new place with my girlfriend, it's small but we liked the feel and location more than anything else we found. The backyard is shared with the people upstairs, haven't met them yet but hopefully they're cool (we move in on the 15th). It was listed as a Jr. 1 bedroom which as you can see means it's basically a studio with a sectioned off area for the bed. It's done nicely though, with sliding frosted glass doors around the bed area.

The furniture in the pictures was there for the showing but won't be there when we move in. But we might try to get them to leave the cushions on the built-in bench thing because it'll be annoying to find good replacements. The chairs, mirror above the fireplace, and everything else definitely needs to go though.

There's a good sized closet behind the "bedroom", and a washer and dryer through the door in the back which is rare for this area. Only real complaint is that there's no bathtub which means less room for showers, but I guess that's not a big deal.

They also allow dogs which is a plus and somewhat hard to find in the city. We're probably not going to be painting anything for now, but we're getting all new (or new to us) furniture and appliances, so let me know if anyone's got any good ideas.

That's a really cute place Kiksar, it's really unique. Having the yard is a bonus too. I love that bench, and I think how the bedroom is separated is cool.

Kiksar I'm really liking your place.

The joint. I'll have to take some bigger pictures later. The downstairs basically has nothing in it besides a pool table and a tanning bed. I don't think anyone wants to see "where the magic happens" because it's a fucking mess.

Thanks, this whole city is too expensive so it's kind of small but we like it. It's on the corner of two pretty busy streets and a lot of food and good stuff like that but because it's a back-facing unit it's way more quiet than most the places I've lived in the city. Plus there are 3 parks within a couple blocks of it so if we get a dog we'll have a place to run with it and stuff.

I'm a little worried about the placement of some things though. The fireplace is right next to the door so it doesn't seem like a good place to be able to sit next to. And that built-in bench is a bit to long I think, if it ended sooner there would be more room for a longer couch and whatever else.

I'll try to make it cooler and post new pics after we move in and get some of our own stuff in there.
