Words cannot describe how jealous I have become after seeing this thread. I recently signed 4-5 years of my life away making 25k a year pre-taxes (grad student). Cuppy, if I had a place like that I wouldn't spend 12 hours a day in my office.

Wow Cuppy.. I know exactly where that is. I was just driving by there the other day while I was in SD visiting my brother.

Tell me you go to Sushi Deli. That place is amazing.

The rent is retardedly high you there, you are right. Granted.. I live on the East Coast, but $2000/mo would get us a mansion out here.

I actually like the current setup.. but definitely get a high partition for the bedroom.. that does make it look a little odd without good separation.

Fuck sake makes me jealous looking at all these massive homes with huge gardens.

The housing market is slightly fucked at the moment here (recession etc), but where i live you are lucky to buy a 1 bedroom apartment for £180k.

Well, I still will - because I love my job almost as much as the loft. =P

And Rudd, I'm actually not a sushi eater. I'm trying, really I am, but I just can't get into it. Spent 23 years of my life in Minnesota where you don't dare touch sushi...so, I just eat edamame and drink saki.

i'm kinda the same way, Cuppy. Sushi Deli has an awesome piece called "The Volcano" - it's like a spicy cheese sushi plate.. its almost like Mexican meets Sushi. It's a great segway to some of the other crazy shit they serve there lol

Sushi is WIN!

I started eating sushi with my wife, back when she was just my girlfriend. She drug me along one time when she and her family were going out. I tried it, and I've been hooked ever since. I've even turned other friends onto sushi. The only thing that bothers me is that I went the first 23 years of my life without sushi... what a pity.

Now we go out for Sushi or make it at home at least once a week, Sushi Hana's Monday night Happy Hour FTW! amirite?

Gotta love sushi. Btw Cuppy that is a beautiful loft. Too expensive for my tastes though but beautiful nonetheless.

OH ya, here's some info and pics for mah house.

Bedrooms: 3
Bathrooms: 1
Lot Size: 6,969 sq ft / 0.16 acres
House Size: 1,056 square feet
Style: Ranch
Year built: 1969
Purchase Price: $216,000 (-6,000 for closing)
Value at time of purchase: $236,000

We rented the place for two years before the owner decided to sell. We got a GREAT loan through ACORN and Bank of America:

0 down payment
NO PMI (private mortgage insurance = monies down the rat hole)
only $500 out of pocket (including the $200 app fee for the loan)
seller paid 6k towards closing
5.875% interest on a 30 yr fixed rate loan

While they did check our credit to make sure there we no delinquencies within the past two years, and no current collections, it didn't even use our credit score to determine our interest rate.

Pics:
First is the front of the house in 2007.

Second is the old living room carpet next to the new bamboo floor we put in (ourselves).

Third is the view of our backyard from our dining room at the begining of summer 08.

Fourth is the southern wall of our living room, the house came with those amazing shelves, and I installed the fish tank in the window between the living and dining rooms. We have since removed the tank, and are planning to tear the left half of that wall completely out to open up the space.

Finally, the last pic is 2 tomato plants that grew as volunteers from the fallen ones from tomato plants we put in the year before. They grew over 10 feet tall, and were taking over our deck, so we spent about 5 hours suspending them from the deck rafters. We harvested dozens per day from these plants alone. We do organic gardening, just compost and 'steer plus' as fertilizer. For some reason plants do REALLY well in that spot. We've got lots of other pants, tomato, pepper, flowers, and more, nothing grows like this.

Meh, it would be nice to have another bathroom, but it was just my wife and I up until a year ago when our son was born.

Figured this thread was as good a place to ask as any. For those living in the L.A. area, how much of the craigslist apartment listings are bullshit? The site's always packed with fake/fraudulent postings, but it's hard to identify them when you're not a local.

Would $1200 a month seem average for 900sq? How much difference does the neighborhood make?

example: OPEN HOUSE - Saturday 02/07/2009 - 1-3 pm

$1,200 seems like a scam for an apartment that close to the beach in So Cal.
