| Is this still a thread? who cares anymore? Noone raises their children anymore. TV, Myspace, Video games, thats todays parents. Then when shit hits the fan they blame GTA or Myspace because they cant controll their fucked up kids. Society today is based on Sex, and Violence. If you plop your retard kid in front of the TV 24/7 without teaching them and telling them whats right and wrong, then they think its ok to gang smash someone, or shoot a mother fucker in the face for being gay, or rape some little girl and leave her in a ditch. This shits weak sauce, i wish we could declare marshal law so i could shoot all these fucking idiots in the face! Then blame it on GTA4! ![]() |

I meant to reply to an earlier post about police officers making as much as a teacher, and want to point out that to join the fire academy or police force, you do NOT need a college degree. To be a teacher, you MUST have a college degree. A police officer with a degree starts at $60k-$70k (in my area), and the pay rate goes up fast. In terms of people with college degree's, teachers are at the bottom of the barrel.

my older brother has a masters degree in english and couldn't hold a job as a clerk at a fucking bookstore. its his attitude, he thinks the world owes him something because he has a degree . It gets his ass fired every time, noone gives a shit what his thesis was. I know plenty of people with degrees managing McDonalds, starbucks, or other bullshit jobs, teaching isnt the bottom of the totem pole by a long shot. in my area, as a cop, having a college degree gets you $1200 a year extra, and you still start at the bottom like everyone else.

+1 Internets | I'd place teachers a bit higher on the list. Definitely not equal though. Of course, i'm speaking as a parent. Not ALL of society needs the police. All of society does however, need good, truly committed teachers. They're the parent's strongest ally in the everyday child rearing process.

I went to a Catholic school through 5th grade, then public school through high school. Hours were: 1st grade through 5th grade was 8AM - 2PM = 6 hours 6th through 8th was 8AM - 2:40PM - 6 hours 40 minutes 9th through 12th was 7:30AM - 2:40PM - 7 hours 10 minutes 5(6) + 3(6.67) + 4(7.17) all divided by 12 comes out to just over 6.5 hours per day. And yes lunchtime counts because kids in the cafeteria have to be watched, they're friggin maniacs, I know we were. And just for the record half of the school teachers I have met in my adult life have been either a pothead or an alcoholic. I think they ended up as teachers because the hours *sounded* awesome. I'm pretty sure most of the teachers I ever had held some sort of second job over the summer, either as a handyman, a waitress, or whatever.

| Pretty sure it's 7ish hours here. In high school most of my teachers taught 6 periods and had one off period. Lunch was spent either being a monitor or catching up on crap while eating a sandwich at the desk.

| This thread has went from a news commentary, to rickroll, to a socio-economic argument of Teachers fair compensation in lieu of failed parenting or declining American morals (I can't tell which). All this needs is a random meme & I think we can sum up the interweb in 1 thread. On a more serious note; Teachers, as much as you hate to admit it are the people who more oft washed out of their primary profession. Those who love to teach become Academics, professors & masters of their field of work. The kids kidnapped a teen, proceeded to thrash her & attempted to hide behind juvinile safeguards. The behaviour, or lack of control is the fault of bad parenting but to prevent copycat offenses make an example of them. If the Wall St. Spritzer years have taught American law/ soapbox media pundits anything, the scapegoats make for great social lessons & usually prevent further perversions. The girls should get nothing short of 10y with a criminal record of assault & attempted man 2. Last edited by Hal2005 : 04-15-2008 at 03:19 PM. |

I was a straight A student and I wasn't an outcast. In junior high, I was a nerd and still made friends with other nerds. I did, however, get my ass beat a couple times for being a smart ass. I grew out of it my awkward phase in high school and still graduated at the top 10% of my class. If kids are getting their asses beat just for being smart and not being a dick (like I was), those bullies need to be handled fast.
