Well there is fractal coding....but I'm not sure the results are "better" but they are higher resolution.

edit: Well that link talks about compression using fractals but it can also work backwards to interpolate pixels. Of course the results aren't great, which is why the focus is on compression. Theoretically, in very specific situations it could maybe be used to recover...uhh "smudged" data i.e. data that is present but unreadable in the original version.

I think it was mentioned in another thread, but what the fuck, I'll address it here. Someone was talking about the pedophile in Thailand that had his face unscrambled in pictures of him banging on kids. The only reason they were able to do that was because they knew which photoshop effect was used to do it, a swirl thingy, and so they could work backwards to recreate his face.

I hope that fucker dies in a Thai prison hell hole.

wow, that's pretty impressive work if that's true. i figured a swirly would be a lossy effect though, but apparently not lossy enough.

Wish Stage6 didn't go out tho. I used to go there for most of the 'official' trailers and music videos. Used to be great for finding foreign music videos and subtitled oversea shows in divx quality on there. Great if you had the bandwidth and everything was easily watchable full screen.

Suppose there's no other streaming type replacement with that quality of video anywhere, right?

Probably not. At least until Divx sells the Stage6 tech to another company.

veoh is probably the best alternative to stage6 now. Just use one of the older installers since the one on the site is gay.

Oddly enough when you download videos they are higher quality then just streaming them on the site so don't right it off when a video doesn't look that great.

Site doesn't work too well with firefox and selection isn't the best but eh, best we got atm.
