Typically they will hatch if humidity exceeds 75% and temperature exceeds 75-80 degrees. They're more commonly hatched in cigars because the conditions inside a less-than-perfectly-calibrated humidor are perfect for hatching larvae.

Also, viable beetle eggs tend to be found in higher-quality tobacco like fine cigars, as opposed to low-grade tobacco like cigarettes. It's uncommon to find live larvae or beetles in cigarettes, but it's not unheard of.

Most people smoke beetle eggs on a regular basis and don't even know about it.

Hook it up! What kind of prices can he get us on some Ashton VSG? 8)

Seriously... it's one of several reasons I quit a long time ago. The other, and only slightly more important reason was my health. Bugs creep me out almost as much as cancer does.

Un ofcourse! Cigar beetles are bad for cigars. Who gives a shit when they get into a pack of smokes. If they get into your humidor with 100+ cigars which are worth $2 a stick to $75 a stick sucks!

Well, if you ever find yourself in Boston and you want to talk cigars with a surly Irishman, I'll give you his number.

Howso? They are probably real, and they're ubiquitous enough in the tobacco business that no one will think twice about them. I'm not kidding or trying to frighten people when I say that those eggs are on every single cigar or cigarette you've ever smoked. They just don't happen to hatch very often with cigarettes.

They're also completely harmless. Even if you inhaled or consumed a live beetle or larva, nothing would happen to you. They're only annoying in that they destroy tobacco products and look gross.

Nah, a few days of Freezing the Cigars(Gotta make sure you dont let moisture in though and slowly bring them back to temp afterward though so they arent damaged from the changes in temp) kills the beetles at any stage of life. That's why most manufacturers Freeze their products at least once before shipping and that's after fumigating the stuff at least twice. Plus if they run a good operation theyll have traps all over the place and check them daily for any sign of Beetles in the warehouses.

Not saying it's a 100% deterrent but the likelyhood of receiving cigars with beetles from a reputable manufacturer are kinda slim. It's cigar clubs and the like that are the breeding grounds. If theyre not diligent with the traps and freezing suspect cigar batches to stop the spread etc.

If you have the beetles in your house chances are they came from the retail store place, or were already present in your house and were munching on pet food or spices etc...
