What stikes me as odd is the difference between the legal consequences of their actions.

Deanna Bobo, 37: Special-education teacher at Raymond E. Wells Junior High School in Greenwood, Ark., allegedly had sex twice in 2005 with a 14-year-old boy in his own bed while his parents were not home. She denied the charge, but was convicted in September 2006 of two counts of first-degree sexual assault and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Debra LaFave, 25: Tampa, Fla., area teacher received no jail time despite having sex with her 14-year-old male student in a classroom and her Hillsborough County home.

These are just 2 examples , but i am really curious what is the explanation for such differences in all cases.

There was video on a news channel about the LaFave kid, a local resident said the kid was bragging around town about what he was up to. He described the kid as 14 going on 20, and said it wasn't a secret to anyone that HE was having sex with HER. (The guy's emphasis, not mine.)
