| Is it just me, or do volumetric clouds in VG look .. bad? I mean, they don't mesh with the sky at all. Looks like someone just tossed some cotton balls in the air.

+13 Internets | I have better things to do...like, look at other threads!!! I didn't know the first screenshot was that high resolution for some reason, I didn't even bother to take a second look. After playing Vanguard and then going to LoTRO I just found the LoTRO graphics lacking something. Maybe I just like the Vanguard styling more, who the fuck knows, but when I played Vanguard the world felt alive and believable. The interaction between the models and the world...not so much. When I play Lord of the Rings it feels like I'm playing a painting, which isn't bad, but it's not the same. I was using the trees as an example because when I look at trees in LoTRO they seem like a painting. They're pretty, but not believable. In those screenshots just posted, the one with the guy standing in front of the torch and all the pines in the background, it looks likes shit, but I've been in that very spot and when the trees are blowing around I think it looks fucking awesome. |

| Oh, I think the clouds themselve are fine.. and moving clouds have been around since EQ in 1999, but they just don't blend with the rest of the sky. That orc one for instance. They look pretty good in the elf shot, but the orc shot just doesn't sit right with me. I think they are just too low to the ground. The normal sky backdrop gives the illusion of being high, where clouds normally are. The volumetric ones all seem to be just a few hundred feet off the ground. I assume this is a limitation of the chunk design.

+13 Internets | From Bertoxxulous server, circa winter '01, '02. Me (Johnnyx) training dragons in WW! I did die, BTW, because I didn't want to train AFKers at ToV, and another of the old guild with their epics. |
