+9 Internets | Jesus Xregg the first Vanguard screenshot looks like the terrain was designed to be an incredibly detailed cardboard cutout.

Vigis - Shadows of Imphras (RP) (Barbarian) hovers in mid-air here, fighting Tiamat. Tiamat stands here, fighting Vigis. < 940h/940H 182v/183V P: std > You start chanting... < 940h/940H 182v/183V P: std > Drahken enters from the north. Vaye enters from the north. Nimas circles around Tiamat stabbing at her back. < 940h/940H 182v/183V P: std > Drahken starts casting an offensive spell. Sexalan enters from the north. Cofen enters from the north. Physical power emanating from the tip of Kaisi's an enchanted khanjari dagger races towards its wielder within a narrow strip of bright white light. A significant sounding BOOM reverberates between your ears as the light settles into Kaisi's skin. Tiamat gasps in agony as Kaisi strikes at her side, sending blood flying everywhere! An eerie feeling creeps into your mind as a dark mystical power consumes Kaisi. Curling wisps of feathery darkened light ooze forth from the blade of Kaisi's an enchanted khanjari dagger, surrounding her body in a strange, tangible halo of smoke. Rapidly, Kaisi is taken by its ferocity and is plunged into a trance. Kaisi circles around Tiamat stabbing at her back. Vaye pierces Tiamat hard. Acoran flies in from the north. Tkik flies in from the north. < 940h/940H 182v/183V P: std > Sexalan takes aim and begins frantically firing his steel crossbow studded with sapphires! Sexalan fires a bronze tipped heavy crossbow quarrel at Tiamat 2 times with 2 hits with precise shooting that does deadly damage! Sasin enters from the north. Acoran slashes Tiamat hard. Tkik's eyes flare with the joy of battle as the battle's intensity increases, his movements quicken as his wades deeper into the fray! Tkik crushes Tiamat hard. < 940h/940H 182v/183V P: std > Cofen circles around Tiamat stabbing at her back. < 940h/940H 182v/183V P: std > Casting: earthblood * < 940h/940H 182v/183V P: std > Tiyela enters from the north. < 940h/940H 182v/183V P: std > You complete your spell... Your spell is partially absorbed by Tiamat. Tiamat bursts apart in a spray of grimy dirt and collapses to the ground, dead. Tiamat is dead! R.I.P. You receive your share of experience. Your blood freezes as you hear the rattling death cry of Tiamat. Shuddering and twitching, the mammoth body of Tiamat, the Queen of all Chromatic Dragonkind falls violently to the ground in a great crash! The massive weight hitting the floor sends a shock- wave throughout the entire cavern. Pebbles sprinkle from above, pelting you with earth, bruising your exposed flesh. With the cavern shifting under the strain, your body is thrown into un- coordinated stumbling as you fight to keep your balance. As the cavern ground finally comes to rest, the body of Tiamat ceases its shiver and the pools of blood from beneath it begin to seep into the parched and cracked ground. You watch muddy slicks of blackening blood trickle into nearby depressions, and as you stand there, viewing the utter carnage of this once magnificent beast, it hits you. Tiamat has been slain. You raise your head in triumph, having lived to tell the tale. Drahken stops invoking abruptly! |

+20 Internets | Holy Crap! Those LOTRO screenshots are VERY impressive. It is going to be quite funny if LOTRO comes out of the box looking a lot better than VG, for all its inflated system requirements. We`ll see I guess. |

+13 Internets | LoTRO graphics look decent. They have good lighting effects and decent shading. Put a screenshot of LoTRO and one of Vanguard in front of a 3d graphics designer and ask them which one is higher quality. They'll pick Vanguard every time. Just look at the trees. That's the most obvious. I really like LoTRO, and I do enjoy their graphics. I've been playing the game for over three months and I am already pre-ordered and everything but the graphic quality of Vanguard and EQII are much higher than LoTRO. In the end I guess it's not what has the biggest numbers or the most defined models or the most extensive bitmapping, it's what people like and everyone seems to like the LoTRO graphics more than everything else, even though it's a glorified AC2 BARFOMATIC engine. |

+13 Internets | Are you kidding me? Have you even played either game? Trees in Vanguard are probably one of the best features. They are VERY realistic when you turn up the graphics on a good machine. It's almost as if every leaf is its own entity, unlike the LOTRO trees which is akin to a piece of paper with leaves painted on it. Look at this screenshot. ![]() The problem with comparing those screenshots you posted is the VG ones are of extremely low quality. That resolution is what, 1024x768? Just by that you figure they were taken with a pretty lame computer. If you even think for one second that LoTRO has more detailed graphics you're extremely confused. They have very nice lighting effects, particularly bloom (turn this off and the game looks quite pathetic). Vanguard takes pretty crappy screenshots to begin with, for whatever reason they always turn out like shit. I think once you're in the game it's one of the most beautiful worlds that's been created in a video game. I'm not dogging LoTRO here, I really do like this game and I think the graphics are just fine, but they are NOT better than Vanguards. Oh, and also, I quit playing Vanguard to play LoTRO, before you call me a VG fanboy. This is of course an argument of opinion, there's no definite "right or wrong" when it comes to liking one set of graphics or the other, and as I previously said all that matters is that the majority of people do like it. LoTRO accomplishes that apparently, even with a sub-par set of tools compared to Vanguard. Last edited by Blumpster; 04-03-2007 at 04:37 PM.. |
