Pride Open Weight tourney championship..

Did anyone watch the recent Pride Open Weight championship fights? They were really awesome. Silva vs Crocop was the highlight of the night in my opinion. By far the most anticipated amoungst all my friends and had an awesome ending.

Here's Silva vs Crocop

I am not really into it, but didnt he do that already?

While i am at it. Got a question.

I ve seen ufc 62 or 61 lately and saw Silva there who wanted to fight against some champion there .. do ufc and pride belong together somehow? Is it possible to see Crocop or Fedor fight in that "Octagon" as well than if Silva does?

Well sorry if thats stupid but like i said, am not so well informed and we dont have stuff like that on TV here, or very rarely some K-1 , but thats gay ;P

The proper question is, "When does Fedor get to beat the shit out of Crocop again?"

edit: I think Crocop fights whoever wins Fedor's next match (Fedor) since Crocop is PRIDE's Open-Weight Grand Prix champion, not positive though.

From Wikipedia - It's been officially announced that Pride Heavyweight Champion "Fedor Emelianenko" will defend his title against the former UFC Heavyweight Champion and Pride 2000 Grand Prix winner Mark "The Hammer" Coleman for the second time on October 21st 2006 at PRIDE 32, Pride's first ever show in the United States. This will be Fedor's first fight after the hand surgery.

UFC and PRIDE have nothing in common except that they are both MMA organizations. UFC is American based, while PRIDE is Japan based. Occassionally, fights will leave one org and go to another in hopes of more money.

It's sort of like WWF and WCW back in the day if you watched wrestling.

And yeah, Crocop put the hurt on Silva. I heard he had a broken orbital socket, cracked ribs, a fractured skull and some other stuff. Man, they'd have to pay me a shitload to get that fucked up in one fight willingly, lol. Fedor is the man though, but Crocop has come a long way and is no pushover.

thanks for posting the link. silva is totally outmatched against crocop, he always has been. crocop is looking intense at the moment and his rematch with fedor should be awesome if he keeps the same focus.

Ah okay, thank you. I like the Octagon thing more ..can a fighter be in both organisations at one time though? Or are they allowed to fight once a while someone from the other? I am asking cause i am pretty sure it was Silva who did want to fight against someone from the UFC.

Must have been a bad night if that was the best fight... Crocop didn't even break a sweat.

Pride is a larger organization than UFC, but I believe there are no restrictions on where a fighter can fight. Numerous fighters on Pride's current roster have been in the UFC at one point or another, and numerous UFC fighters have appeared in the Pride ring for a few fights. One of my favorites (which ive conveniently lost the link to) was a Pride fight featuring Chuck Liddell with Dana White doing commentary.

Ah i see, thank you.

So who is with me hoping that Shamrock will win vs Tito? If he loses again like last time it would be really embarrasing :/

Fighters in either organization are under contract, just like any sports organization. They can leave once thier contract is up, but most stay if they have a decent record and some status. Of course, injuries can play a factor, but i'm not expert on the contract negotiations.

As stated before, some fighters have fought in both UFC and PRIDE. Ken Shamrock has, as well as Liddel, Coleman, and many others. PRIDE is more of a worldwide MMA organization. Rules and regulations were always more lax overseas, and Japanese people are wierd anyway with entertainment, so it's no suprise that MMA is extremely popular there and bring in many diverse cultural background fighters. UFC is mostly American/Canadian based fighters, but they do have some worldwide talent. Naturally, UFC is the most popular in the states since all fights are in the US and it's where it began and with the addition of being on Spike TV, it's drawing in a much larger audience. PRIDE is only available through PPV or the internet.

Both companies, although MMA based, have different rule sets. UFC doesn't allow knees or elbows to the top of the head, but allows elbows to the face. Pride does not allow elbowing at all from what I remember, but allows kneeing, etc...I'm not a super-fan of either organization, but I love to watch the fights when I can from either organization. I typically think PRIDE has the most talented fighters, but UFC is readily available to me, so I tend to keep up with it more, only because i don't get PPV to watch the PRIDE fights.

you can always checkout http://www.sherdog.net for MMA discussions, but be warned, it's not for the timid. Those guys are extreme fanboi's and most discussions end up flames, personal attacks or whatever degenerate behavior they get away with, lol. I tend to just go once in a while and catch up on some new from the mainpage and catch up on who's fighting who next.

The last fight was embarrassing. I can't believe he's coming back to get his ass kicked again.
