+34 Internets | http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...82924299166575 That's my favorite one by far. It may not be the fastest or the hardest or whatever, but it sure is a badass song with a badass stepfile. I've been interested in Beatmania quite some time now, but I can't seem to find any arcades with it. Given my m4d d0g sk1llz at Stepmania, I'd like to think I could do pretty well at Beatmania. FYI, most of the top DDR/Stepamania/Beatmania/etc players are regular ole white ass honkeys. In fact, the farther you go up the sk1ll chain, the harder it is to find a non-white-teen. Crazy, I know.

+34 Internets | Hmm, I'm not too sure about more challenging, except for the fact that Guitar Hero is basically difficulty capped due to no player made content. Other than that, I would wager that Guitar Hero has the mechanics in place to be quite a bit more challenging, since it does differ quite fundamentally from the 'press button hold button' paradigm. More fun, though? Stepmania so far beats the living shit out of everything else I've played. By miles. I can't imagine Beatmania would be too much different in that aspect, so yeah.

+34 Internets | Well I meant in the world . Best DDR player I've ever seen can AA a moderately difficult keyboard file, and he's just some 14 year old white boy. Best Stepmania players are definitely all white, I can't think of one off the top of my head that isn't, and that's around the globe for sure. I've heard Lisu described as quite the badass at Beatmania, though.

as for challenge, all this appears to be is mashing buttons quickly, at least GH has some techniques you can master like Hammerons and Pulloffs. With Genres you mean music genres? Metal and hard rock is all you need ![]() oh yeah and a crowd going wild on screen beats "GREAT 652!" imo ![]() http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Stj_WY4XywE not exactly challenging, right? | |

. Simply due to its user created content it's far more challenging than Guitar Hero, which has what, maybe 50? songs you can play total? It's a different kind of challenge, sure, but it's not exactly easier by any stretch of the imagination. Like I said before, Guitar Hero certainly DOES have the mechanics in place to be more challenging, it just can't hold up to an endless amount of content is all.And yeah, Stepmania is loads of fun. The better you get at it, the more you'll come to appreciate it. I've got a few old to very old videos up at http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=kate+hoof of Stepmania, and I'm what you would maybe call an above average player at best. If that. There are people out there who can accurately hit (within one thousandth of a second, I believe it is) up to 31 keys a second. If you don't think that's challenging, you're on crack.

+1 Internets | Seriously, how the hell do you people even see what key you have to hit next, let alone processing that information and then hitting the corresponding key before the one-tenth of a second is up and you're already 302 key-presses behind? |

| Beatmania is by far the most difficult game I've ever played. I'm usually really good at rhythm games (DDR and Guitar Hero specifically), by virtue of a strong musical background (10 yrs violin). After months on and off of playing, I can only consistently do well on the upper tiers of the easiest difficulty. I can fake my way through much of the medium difficulty. Edit: Quote:

+34 Internets | Just takes practice and adjustment. You'll eventually start seeing patterns, starting off on a broadscale and then breaking down into much smaller segments. As that happens, you generally speed up your read speed, your reflexes go up, and most of what you play is ingrained into muscle memory. That's not to say you could even pass a moderately difficult song with your eyes closed, but it only takes a split second to recognize what you need to do and when. It's somewhat like playing the drums, I guess, in the sense that when you're really good you can generally tap out the beat on your keyboard, and instantly pick up where you went wrong when that beat doesn't match perfectly. I've played a few songs where I've AAA'd (that's all Perfects and Marvelous..es) them on the first run through, despite their difficulty level. Just takes a bit of practice, maybe an hour a day, and anyone can get there.
