While I read your article rather breifly (and will read again, believe it or not this is an interesting debate we have going on here), you didnt need to start a new thread. The green helmet guy (I think thats what is called) is what this is about, just because you're trying to turn screen shots into your own personal version of the "no spin zone" doesnt mean you need to make a new thread every time you find something of interest.

And it is sorta damning when a bunch out of the dozen or so "discrepancies" are just camera issues. People shouldn't be talking about fake photos if they can't recognize the diff between telephoto and wide angle (the one with the upside down truck).

The palestinians are a lot fucking better at propoganda than the isrealis. They wont he war, bitches, didnt you read their news? It was a good read and good to know...but the media is just that entertainment. I personaly can't stand watching the news for many reasons and this being one of them. Just make your own decisions.

this article isnt too much a suprise of how media manipulates the fact for ratings. what is always more of a disturbing surprise to me is how reuters.com started and how much its quoted by cnn and fox more than the associated press.

I'm not so much posting about "OMFG bias" as opposed to the huge names that are just straight out lying about what is really going on.

I mean if we can't trust AP who provides, from what I've seen 90% of what's in our newspapers and what appears on major news networks, how can we trust any news we hear or see?

Rush twists, he doesn't lie. He's pretty just someone really big on showmanship, a good metaphor would be to say Rush is to politics as Marylin Manson is to rock. Good show, different way of putting it, big twist.

Why would you ever assume that news reporting professionals would be any different from any other sort of professional? They all have an agenda, they all want to inject personal opinion, and they all want to try and grab a segment of the audience for...

All I have to say to that is, Jesus Christ. I had read previous articles about how Hezbollah staged ridiculous shit for Western journalists, but getting doctored / staged photos out into the mainstream and accepted as 'real' reporting is just bullshit. I never saw anything quite like that before. The same woman wailing over multiple wrecked houses in multiple villages! Hah. Anyone who reads/watches the news has been saturated with images of grieving Arabs and bombed out buildings since we invaded Iraq; it is easy to miss shit like that when we see dozens and dozens of such people each week. It is truly disturbing how a mickey like that slipped by the world, pretty much.

Basically, fake/staged photos changed the whole course of what just happened over there by altering opinion on a global scale - seriously fucked up.

The people that wrote that page are pretty naive. The first thing is that unless you make a photo report (very rare outside of magazine specialized in that), pictures are only there to illustrate the text and add some color, give some visual structure to the page and maybe, maybe, add something of their own. Second is that the caption and the article have nothing to do with the photographer ("We need a dead guy in rumbles what does reuter have?" "oh there! This one looks dead!" caption: "a dead man in rumbles"). Third is that there is a fierce competition between the photographers. They don't want to sell paper, they want to sell their damn pictures, so they better stand out. That's why they set up "message picture", or make them more dramatic.

Obviously some people clearly crossed the proverbial line. But where is that line exactly? It's pretty blurry, so I am not surprised some people cross it when put in such extreme situations (imagine a time of rush in your work and add to that you are in the middle of an actual war).

Except that Rush Limbaugh is neither a news reporter nor journalist, he doesn't represent himself as such, and he even tells you he's not a reporter or journalist. He is just an entertainer who makes a living giving his opinion on politics, which is exactly what he says he is.

The traditional liberal media in the US, however, represent themselves as unbiased centric reporters or journalists when in reality their bias is blatantly obvious.
