I'm a member of the ACLU, value civil rights over 'omg panic terrorism' laws and favor things like socialized medicine and benefits for the poor. I also favor gay marriage and adoption rights, you name it - all that civil liberties stuff.

I have conservative views (I suppose that isn't what much of the republican party is about anymore) regarding small government, which I guess makes me more of a libertarian than a conservative? Legalize soft drugs, get rid of the death penalty, abolish laws making adultery a crime, pro-choice... man, I'm going to stop here.

I think I'm much more of a bleeding heart liberal than I thought I was

Also not an American, so take it for what it's worth

Not all that surprising... the board has a lot of young adults which tend to not be affiliated with either political party or particular view. Maybe one reason youth voter turn out is that low - not only in the US though.

The board also has a lot of college students/graduates and (almost?

) everyone can form their own reasoned opinion. Higher education usually leads to a more liberal view. If you've really studied evolution, you won't support teaching intelligent design. If you understand how the weather works, you'll just shake your head when someone claims global warming isn't real.

Conservative candidates tend to go more for the value voters as well - going for emotions works and distracts from real issues. Case in point: remember the immigration debate? If I recall correctly, the news media moved on to cover an amendement to ban flag burning and of course gay marriage.

You claim to value civil rights yet support a system of government that steals wealth from one man and gives it to his neighbor?

The poll is poor. You need at a minimum to include Libertarian and Authoritarian, and probably Anarchist.
