I'm thinking about it, although I'm not quite sure what I'd say. I'm trying to find out if I have free international calls...

Sad thing is, a lot of people mistakenly use light years to mean "a long time" and not a long distance. A sign that education around the world is failing

Ask her how exactly she can be 7.635 billion light years old. Then tell her your just kidding, and that your actually 57 miles old.

You'd think the son of God would know basic stuff like that. Its too bad she said that, gave it all away.

Light years are used as a measurement of time, as well as distance.

Even if this is true I'm not going to believe it since that would screw up the jokes about this broad and our pointing out she's stupid.

I've never, ever heard any definition of "light-year" as a measurement of time. Nor did I see anything in that wikipedia article that said that light-years could also be used as a measurement of time. I'll admit, I didn't read every single word of the article, but I did search for "time" and never saw any reference to using it as a measurement of time. I went ahead and tried googling for light-years as a measurement of time, and I found nothing. All instances either used light-years as a measurement of distance or were commenting on the mistaken belief that light-years were a measurement of time.

Basically, it goes like this. Light travels at exactly 299,792,458 metres per second. From your wikipedia article, this is a definition. Since the length of a metre is definied by light, it's a bit circular, but it's a frame of reference. So, we're dealing with a measurement that is in (length)/(time), ie metres/second or miles/year. Now, if you want to convert the speed of light over a length of time into a distance...

[(speed of light) * (length of time light travelled)] * (Length units)/(Time units)

The time units cancel out, leaving only distance.

If I missed something in the wikipedia article, please point it out. Otherwise, please show me a legitmate usage of "light-year" as a time measurement... I'd be insterested to hear about this new usage.

Where in the article does it say that? In a retarded way, a light year is indeed a unit of time: a year as defined by the time it takes Earth to make a revolution around the sun. That's it. Adding "light" in front of the year makes no sense, if you're talking about time.

A light year is a measurement of distance, it's as simple as that.

A light year in terms of "age" is like saying an 70 year old is 840.5~ 70mph car months. Or 840 lightmonths. Or 7 lightdecades. etc. The speed is there to trick you into thinking "my, thats a big number next to a year!"

Britney Spears is 24 light years old. She, like jesus lady is an extradimensional being and the light year reference refers to spatial movement along that extra vector. True Story.

...on a side note. As I was looking up Britney Spears age Bush came on speaking to a crowd. He said "I understand a large portion of America does not trust my cabinet". At that point the entire crowd interrupted and burst into applause for about a minute.
