The subject of speaking in tongues and being drunk in the Holy Spirit is a touchy subject for me. I am a Christian and when I watch that video I see more evil than I do good. That guy is no different than any Las Vegas hypnotist except he's making a profit off God. Speaking in tongues is something thats biblically true, but I do not believe it happens that way. The bible says there will always be someone there who understands it or translates it. Note: I have never experienced speaking in tongues nor has my father who is a minister.

Those are the evangilists who lead people in the wrong direction and fuel the flames of Christian-haters.

Honestly, there aren't that many good Ministers/preachers/priests out there now. Many if not most are corrupt in some way, BUT that is no excuse for someone not to try to find a good church. I understand there are those who just flat out won't go and will never, but for those who did go but don't any more because of a bad experience, you're just being lazy and making up excuses.

I am not a Christian, nor is my family, but I do have great respect for the teachings of Christ as they are narrated in the four gospels. Having said that, I see no Christian group today following in the footsteps of Jesus--almost all denominations have a "selective faith" as in, they choose the passages in the Bible that suits their purposes and run with it.

Even more disturbing is the Christian Right in the USA as a political group... how can you call yourself a Christian and then support something (i.e. WAR) that is completely against Jesus's teachings is beyond me. Army chaplains as a concept has always amused me too... this hypocricy has been going on since the Roman emperor Theodosius I made Christianity the state religion of course, so none of it is really new.

I've been reading this thread but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with that strange ass video. Some old guy walking around cackling like a dumbass and everyone else pissing themselves or freaking out for no reason?

And at the point where he said some shit about a full house.. everyone stands up and spazzes out dancing?

I'm going to go ahead and guess that maybe about 20 people there were honestly freaking out, and the rest were just playing along so they don't look like Satan worshippers. Basically the same reason hypnotism works.

what that was was a thing called 'the spirit of toronto'. basically it was this 'phase' that certain churches went through in toronto that believed that the holy spirit came into them and made them feel drunk and laugh during the whole service.

note: the only churches affected by this 'spirit of toronto' were pentecostal which in my opinion are a bunch of wierdos.

this laughing trend kinda caught on in europe and lots of churches split apart because of it. half the church would play along because some people need to feel something instead of just relying on faith, and the other half could see that it was bullshit.

long story short. it's all bullshit.

speaking in tongues is real. what they're doing is not. some people's faith is so weak that they need visible or physical manifestations of faith to believe. it doesn't work that way.

If they get bitten, then they had some hidden sin, and God made the snake bite them or something like that. They also drink strychnine and stuff. They used to do that in medieval times to women suspected of witchcraft. They'd tie them up to a chair and fling them into a river. If they float, they are innocent, if they drown, they were guilty. If they drowned but were still thought kinda innocent, they'd be forgiven by God later. Good times!

a) take a bunch of ppl with an already altered mindset on what you can or cant do

b) Mix to them few ppl who are paid to react to what you do
