Goodbye Freedom of the net

http://www.savetheinternet.com/

Looks like Telecom companies want to limit Net Freedom. Who knows, if it goes thru you may only be able to play WoW thru comcast! *shivers at the thought*

Quote:
What is this about?

This is about Internet freedom. "Network Neutrality" -- the First Amendment of the Internet -- ensures that the public can view the smallest blog just as easily as the largest corporate Web site by preventing Internet companies like AT&T from rigging the playing field for only the highest-paying sites.

But Internet providers like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast are spending millions of dollars lobbying Congress to gut Net Neutrality. If Congress doesn't take action now to implement meaningful network neutrality provisions, the future of the Internet is at risk.

What is network neutrality?

Network Neutrality — or "Net Neutrality" for short — is the guiding principle that preserves the free and open Internet.

Net Neutrality ensures that all users can access the content or run the applications and devices of their choice. With Net Neutrality, the network's only job is to move data — not choose which data to privilege with higher quality service.

Net Neutrality is the reason why the Internet has driven economic innovation, democratic participation, and free speech online. It's why the Internet has become an unrivaled environment for open communications, civic involvement and free speech.

I'm all for internet freedom, except for spammers. Currently about 40% of traffic going through routers is spam http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp...7754-2003Mar12 which is total bullshit. My ping in CS and WoW is suffering because of these fags. Unsolicited email needs to be illegal. Unsolicited snail mail as well for that matter.

Original post for this was deleted, when coffee died. Network Neutrality is inevitable, but I would be more worried about the people they put in charge of the Neutrality like Yahoo or Google that will create neutrality that will benefit them over the consumer. However on the downside, FCC has threatened to companies that if Neutrality is not made that will allow even network distribution to their customers of both internet and VoIP, then they will takeover the regulation. I would rather see an orphanage burn than allow the FCC to regulate the fiber lines that provide me with my internet access.

What the hell are you talking about? I don't think there is a single line in that mess of a post that makes sense.

Can't we solve most of the spam issues by kicking russia off the internet?

On first reading, I agree'd. Who doesnt want everyone to be equal on the internet? Then I read the thing about spam. Then I reread the OP, and it now sounds like they want to protect spam mail, so any small time person can send you whatever the fuck crap they want.

I now disagree with it, and I dont think it would be bad if yahoo or google or any major ISP became a 'gatekeeper' of sorts. Seriously, if they can cut down the traffic spam creates, the internet will be cheaper, faster and more secure.

Slippery slope. How long before google becomes a money-grubbing monopoly like Microsoft?

It's retarded. It's a waste of time and taxpayer money.

What I predict is that if the legislation goes through, ISP's will come up to offer a product that allows equal access to all internet sites... then a competitor will come along and offer the same thing for a little cheaper and so on.

Really, anything that gets Scott Kurtz of the interweb is fine by me.

Have you guys actually read what the telecom giants are proposing? Every packet of information sent out now has the same priority, but they want to apply an escalating scale to net traffic based on who is giving them money while at the same time blocking competitor sites.

If it means the internet costs are cut in half, speed is doubled, and my email box doesnt contain 437 "Hot anime tentacle rape!" emails, I will consider it a small loss. And if they overstep, theyll get sued like Microsoft.

Of course there is a fine line and slippery slope can be applied to any law. But I'd rather have an iron hand crack down on the internet at the risk of a monopoly then have it degrade into a costly shitpile like its doing now.

Let me school you on the market.

Two car dealers are located next to one another. One sells a car for $10K. The other sells the same car for $10K, but the dealer fucks you in the ass without a condom of you buy a car there.

Which car are you going to buy? You're going to buy the car that doesn't come with a free ass-rape.

Now, if an ISP provider comes along and says, "I'm going to give you access to the net, but I'm going to fuck you in the ass" what are you going to do? You're going to find an ISP that doesn't require lube to use.

The answer is to not legislate this shit and I'm really not understanding why they're looking to do so in the first place. It's they're product. If they want to charge more to some people, I say fine. Let them.

The market, if left alone, will correct itself.

There's a stack of things as tall as John Wayne's cock that congress SHOULD be working on. They need to leave this the hell alone.

In fact, I see it as an opportunity. "Use Zhav-brand ISP and get free internet access just like before the retarded legislation went through! Only 50 bucks a month." Fiftey bucks goes down to 35 when someone else offers to do it for 40.

roffle.

randomguy, what you've just typed is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having viewed it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
