| Mormons are racists? Once upon a time i thought i had mistakenly read something strange about the mormon doctrine, figured it was a slanted article i read and forgot all about it. untill the mormons came to my door. instead of telling them to get fucked i decided to invite them in, i really wanted to ask them about something. here is the question i asked and their reply. what is this i read about black people being cursed until 1978? they were obviously discomforted by my question but they answered. they said to me that when cain killed able, his skin was turned black and he was cursed, all of his decendants were cursed in the eyes of god with black skin as well. in 1978 some kind of high to do priest in the mormon world received a revelation stating black people were no longer cursed. i then proceed to tell them that in my humble opinion, the mormon religion is a farce, i tell them that it sounds to me like a bunch of white churchgoing slave owners decided not to let "niggers" into their churches, thus made up the doctrine about the curse, come the tail end of the civil rights movement they were probably under a lot of pressure about their anti black rules so they imagined up a revelation making everything ok again in the eyes of god for black people. they tell me if our church buckles under pressure why are there no homosexual priests either, or women priests for that matter? in turn i ask them why, if the curse is lifted, are they still black? they had no answer so i showed them the door. so i bring this to you and i wonder if the mormon religion is merely a brainwashing cult, much more so than other forms of organized religions (generally speaking) and next time the missionaries come to my door what is a good argument i can use to illustrate my point of views? |

+34 Internets | Fuck yeah Mormons are racist, Christ what a stupid question. You ever been to Utah? There's about 3 black dudes in the entire state, and those in some way associated with their basketball teams. If it makes you feel any better, though, they're just as prejudiced against non-Mormons.

+1 Internets | All religions have the potential to be brainwashing cults. It depends upon each individual to take what good lessons or ideals are offered by their respective religion and use it to better themselves and filter out the misinformation and subversive messages. I'm an atheist currently, but once upon a time I was Protestant. Went to Church, went to Sunday School, studied the Bible, all that jazz. But as I grew up I realized that what I read and was taught didn't fit in with what I believed. Despite leaving the religion, however, there are still things I learned that I could apply to my daily life. I have a Mormon friend who is a great guy. He's nice, funny, a gamer, musician, and wicked smart. It's guys like him who can take the good parts from the Mormon doctrine and ignore the crap. |

| It is a cult. But it's a mostly harmless cult (to others) and they tend to teach good values, which is why people aren't outrageously against it. I was told my friend had to meet with their "priest" to go over their finances and make sure they had donated enough to the church that year. Of course...now we can start arguing that all religions are cults.

+1 Internets | The Mormon church is insane. Their theology and doctrine is completely whack. It would take too long to explain just how weird it is. Just do a google search using any of the following terms: mormon underpants moroni kolab joseph smith george washingon creation earth celestial sex polytheism missing tribe of israel Mormonism is to Christianity as the Nation of Islam is to Islam. Both Mormonism and the Nation of Islam were founded in the United States by weird dudes who claimed to be prophets of a new religion that supposedly had its origins in an old, established religion. And both involve silly outer space science ficiton type stuff. And yes, Mormons basically have to file tax returns every year to prove that they have donated at least 10% of their income to the church. Most of them are perfectly nice people, in a stepford wives kind of way. Smart mormons scare me, though, beacuse I don't understand how they can continue to participate in a religion that is so completely ridiculous and fake. But then again, maybe George Washington did help create the Earth, God wants us to wear special underpants, a missing tribe of Israelites landed in North America and American Indians are their ancestors, and we all get to be gods of our own planets and have celestial sex after we die. |

+5 Internets | I have a couple of Mormon friends (I'm hispanic) and they are some of the nicest people I've ever met. Honestly, I've yet to meet one rude/abrasive mormon. Not saying that they don't exist, just saying I've never met one. About the only really annoying thing is the fact that they (literally) think it is their mission to convert everyone and anyone. I made it really clear to my friends early on I was a godless heathen and while I don't mind discussing religion, no amount of persuasion short of God himself appearing before me (and allowing me to take pictures of course) was going to change my mind. Once they realized I was hopeless, they left me a lone. ![]() And as far as the whole cult thing goes... it's a religion. Nationally recognized by the United States of America. Scientology is a cult. |

| whyme, you miss the point. i have never met a rude or abrasive mormon either. the fact still remains that part of their core doctrine denotes that if you are not white then you are a descendant of cain and therefore cursed by god, well untill 1978 anyway. maybe thats why they didnt try hard to convert you. oh btw, its not just black people, tho they are the base. basically ables descendants are all white, cains descendants are all black, from black people came all other people of color. im not saying every mormon is a racist, yet i guess i am. im sure there are tons of mormons that if you told them half of this crazy horseshit they would turn their backs onit instantly. |

| At least they're not as bad as Scientologists. Unfortunately a great deal of my extended family are Mormons living in Salt Lake City and Provo. /shudder. I am well aware of how fucking creepy Mormons are. Incidentally, did you know that BYU is the FBI's number one recruiting ground?
