+21 Internets | Final Fantasy Big fan of the FF series. Anyone else looking forward to number 12? The realtime combat is a nice change from random battles. The E3 movies look great the towns are alive with people, looks very submersive(spelling). Kinda weary though cause I disliked ten and tens sequel. Story for eight was great nine went more to the roots. Any thoughts would be great. |

+21 Internets | well it not exactly realtime. There is just no shattering screen or transition in combat. It is still issue orders and they attack. Like in ff7 there is a bar that fills up when full you can attack. This is the opposite you issue an attack then the bar moves. There is however casting time....anyone that has played star ocean series or grandia knows casting time and realtime in a rpg is kinda crappy...even if the payoff is more damage. As long as they don't make square light attack triangle strong attack or whatever and leave button combos out of it I think it will work well. |

+4 Internets | The system changed a lot it looks like. Unless I was totally blind, FF12 wasn't playable this year and it was last year - last year the combat system was similar to Star Ocean 3 if I recall. From the videos this year it looks like it went back to more traditional style with a mix of seamless transitions from encounter to overworld. If you really want a good turn based RPG, just like all the old FF's, Dragon Quest/Warrior 8 was pretty badass. They haven't changed the combat system one bit from the previous ones, and I'm really looking foward to after playing it a bit. This E3 was a little dissapointing otherwise, the Shadow of Collosus demo was sort of poorly put together but the game could still have potential. Other than that, KH2, DnD online, Zelda, and Advent children, the stuff at the show was pretty underwhelming. |

| dragon quest is fucking oldschool. I played DQ 7 on my compy (luv you emus), and it really did feel just like one of the old nes/snes ones. Except longer. And sort of sad...I was able to just use lame tactics to get through most of the game. But if it works! Last edited by Iannis : 05-22-2005 at 10:37 PM. |

| DQ7 was the longest RPG I've played to date. 65 hours to get to the final dungeon, and I hardly dicked around either. Oi.

+10 Internets | I played through the remake of DQV they made on PS2 and it was easily the best game I played in 2004 by FAR. I started DQVIII and it has a MMORPG feel to it in a way (lot of space to explore, same scale for outdoors and cities, roaming named mobs!). I guess you could call it an Ocarina of Time feel too! My limited japanese level allows me to play, but not to follow the scenario easily, so I stopped playing until a full scenario walkthrough is posted on GameFAQs (haven't checked in a while). To be on topic: yes I am looking forward to that FFXII (my heart allready melted for Penelo). I am just a little bit scared by the game system though, because the director is the guy who made the insanely tedious Vagrant Story and also the not that less tedious Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

+2 Internets | As much as I love Square and the Final Fantasy series, the shitfest that was FFXI really turned me off the series and producer. Not sure if I'm ready to go back to them so soon after being burned by such a demoralizing shitty game. |

+61 Internets | After that horrible abomination that was FFx2 I'm not so sure I want to trust these guys to present me with another game. I guess FF1~FF3 just ruined the rest of the series for me. How can you top those 3? Ever? |

+21 Internets | Hmm ok Vincet was a cool char but modeling a game after him feels like milking FF7 We had the opportunity today to sit down with Yoshinori Kitase at the Square Enix booth. Mr. Kitase's credits include serving as the producer for both Final Fantasy X and the upcoming Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, and his current project is Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. While we didn't get very many concrete details about the game, we did get some insight into the ongoing development process of the title based on the cherished role-playing-game world. The game's title, Dirge of Cerberus, comes from the name of Vincent's weapon. His gun was apparently one of the very first items of the game that was designed, and the unique three-barreled weapon is called Cerberus. Mr. Kitase professes to be a big fan of action gun games (he named Medal of Honor and Half-Life as favorites), which he cited as one of the reasons the development team decided to go with a gun combat game. However, he notes that the game isn't going to be merely an all-action game, which he says is boring, as a creator, to design. Instead, it's going to incorporate RPG elements and have a strong focus on storyline. Much like other recent Final Fantasy games, Dirge of Cerberus will feature voice-overs, and he mentioned that the voice actors (in Japanese, at least) will be kept constant through the properties in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. The basic gameplay model is going to be that of a third-person shooter, and the team is currently working on refining traits, like response speed, in the game. Mr. Kitase said that one of the reasons the game wasn't shown at E3 was that the development team is still working on the "controllability" of the game. Specifically, the team is refining it. He did say the team would try to show the game at this year's Tokyo Game Show, however. Mr. Kitase says he hopes existing Final Fantasy VII fans will be pleased with the game, which gives those fans a chance to experience what really happened to their favorite characters after the end of the original. When asked directly about which Final Fantasy VII characters would be appearing, he would only confirm those that have appeared so far in the promotional materials (like Cait Sith). However, he says the team's thinking of adding more characters, and it would like to put in some surprise encounters for players. When asked about a possible release window, the answer was "as soon as possible." Kitase added that the team was working very hard on the game. We'll be sure to keep you updated with any additional news about Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII as it emerges, so keep watching GameSpot and this gamespace for more information. |

| It's not an FF without turnbased combat. This, in my opinion, is tantamount to making the next civilisation game real time.
