The truth commercials Do these piss anyone else off? I can't stand these fucking commercials. Do they expect their petitions to do anything? Do they expect shaving their head to do anything? People smoke on their own free will, and if the warning on the side of the pack that says "may cause death" doesn't stop them, a bunch of teen hippies calling smoking corporations murderers sure as hell isn't. Like all the people at a fucking tobacco company sit around and say "how can i kill more people". No hippies, get a cause, and quit wasting money so you can get on tv and piss me and every other real man in the world off.

you say "they" like they get together and plan shit with evil intentions, it's a group of people going to work everyday and doing their damn job. If you don't know what a real man is, how do you know i'm not one? God damn you're interesting and full of flawless argument.

+7 Internets | Your putting down anti tabacco ads? Well ok they do have a reverse effect. Let me guess your a moron who still thinks its cool to smoke. Or your some gimp that doesnt have the will power to quit. Id rather just see the goverment outlaw the sale of ciggarettes. Let them all move to canada, get free health care, and 25 smokes per pack! |

Ill gladely be the guinnea pig for this topic.. I smoke a pack a day, and I wish to hell they would outlaw smoking. It "might" actually help me quit. I happen to "think" I have a descent amount of will power. I have quit several long term habbits quite easily. However, theres something about all the "quit smoking" propaganda that actually makes it "harder" to quit.. I dont honestly know how to explain it. Every time I see a 'Truth' commercial, I think to myself "Gee, I really need to quit" .. than 5 minutes later, I light up again and dismiss everything bad I ever learned about it. As if to say "ok STFU already and stop pounding me with all that smoking bullshit". I would probably have an easier time quitting if I wasnt constantly pressured that I "need" to quit immediately before I spontaneously combust while standing innocently in the middle of a crowd. Believe me, I really DO want to quit. edit: Sad as it seems, (as a smoker) the commercials do more harm than good.. prolly in part why the tobacco companies dont mind sponsoring them. As they say.. any publicity is good publicity.. and they are banking on that. Last edited by TheWand : 04-10-2004 at 05:09 PM.

they piss me off too, kil. it's as hypocritical as fox using the slogan "fair and balanced" for them to parade around with mired statistics and call themselves truth. the one with the girl talking about her parent that died and she hasn't met a replacement yet always gets me mad in particular. can't let the responsibility of the parent using reckless behavior go to the parent, o no, it has to go to some evil corporation. what's a real crime is the sin taxes on booze and cigarettes. the weed ones are even stupider.. a little kid riding a bike across the opening of a fast food joint at rush our, unatended, gets hit by some dopers with no money pulling out too fast. um, yeah. anyone could make the mistake of hitting someone carelessly riding by an outlet full of cars.

I remember reading that the Truth commercials were going to be yanked, as they were part of a settlement reached by the tobacco companies that they would fund anti-tobacco commericials until their market share lowered to less than 95 % or something like. Anyone else recall?

The Insider (the film with Russel Crowe) represents but one experience, turned film, of the cigarette industry plotting and manipulating to get their way. Has the cigarette industry lied to the public? Yea, and it's well documented. Some (granted, not all, but many) working in the industry are ANYTHING but little angels. Just because you're clueless to how one of the shadiest industries in the world operates doesn't mean you can come to the forums and make shitty threads. P.S. You're boring.
