I think the point of the A-bombs winning the war is not that the death tolls of other attacks were on par or greater, but the dramatic show of force that it was. Yeah we fire bombed Dresden and it was a horrible thing, but with 1 single bomb we did something that was comparable, and Japan knew we could have blanketed their country with them. Without the atomic bombs, the war with Japan because one of the slowest, bloodiest and most fucked up wars in human history. The way it played out, it was just almost the most fucked up one in human history. Who knows who is right but it is interesting.

I'm glad we did it. It sucks that so many people died, but I think it worked out better for Japan in the long run. Look at Japan now, it's in pretty good shape. Imagine if the war dragged on and Russia beat us to Tokyo. That could have sucked. They would probably be worse off now.
