Noise aside, don't those put out alot of wind to push something that big through the air? I know mythbusters did something about a jet engine pushing a car. . .people would be FUCKED because it moved the car (not like flipping through the air but blew it) if I remember right.

Haha Greece, actually, for the summer. Believe me, I wouldn't go to this "rainman" school if it weren't free.

A quick check on wikipedia shows that the longest runways at international airports are around 18,000 feet long, about 3.5 miles. If my plane landed a few miles from the beginning of the runway I'd be afraid we weren't going to stop until we hit the corn field.

I'm on probably 50-60 flights per year and the planes almost always land right on, or within a hundred feet of, the huge painted white lines on the runway, which are usually painted within no less than 100 yards of the beginning of the runway. See, the idea is that if you land near the beginning of the runway you have the rest of it to use while you slow the plane down. It stands to reason that at some airports(generally in foreign countries where regulations are more relaxed) the longest runway is not really long enough for the big planes like the 747 in the picture to land on unless they nail the very beginning of the runway and really slam on the brakes. They probably just have to utilize the reverse thrust mechanism on the jet engines a lot more heavily than they do at American airports in order to slow down quickly enough.

Fascinating, but it appears your entire post is photoshopped, just like the picture in question.
