Algorithmic targeting in image maps has been around for a long time. However, Adobe has not integrated it into photoshop due to inconsistency of targeting in even the most basic of photos and images.

Also, you will never see this in the form of a simple photoshop plug-in as it is far too complex and warrants nothing short of a full add-on to the photoshop standalone product.

The core math of the map targeting demonstrated in the video have been in use in advanced animation, rendering & CGI applications since the late 80s. What you are seeing here is simply a breakdown of the core functions and how they would apply to general image editing.

Personally, I don't expect targetting to be a part of photoshop in the near future. It still has a long ways to go before it can be consistant enough for image software to utilize.
