Is it just me, or didn't Mythbusters debunk the whole "gun-barrel will split like a banana-peel" myth? I know they tried sticking ballistic-gelatin in the barrel, but I'm a bit vague on trying to remember what else they tried; I could have sworn they put a boresight in one. IIRC, the best they got with an old weak barrel and something welded in the bore, was it to split a little at the end.

But then again my memory is a bit rusty...I'll have to look online.

Cool pic regardless.

Edit: Guess they came up with 'plausible'. MythBusters (season 5) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I call bullshit shop. Thers no way they could get a round that would do that much damage into that barrel. It might crack a little but not blow and banana like that.

you know what I wouldn't be suprised if it's true

a.) mythbusters is shitty, it's better than nothing but they aren't scientists they are former stuntmen and alot of times they don't prove anything conclusivly at all. infact i've seen them backtrack a couple times and reverse old decisions.

b.) explosive gasses, tensile stength of steel alloy, kinetic energy dissapation. i'm no ballistics/explosives expert and i'm damn sure neither are you. how do you know that a barrel couldn't do that under the right conditions. even if you couldn't reproduce it after 10 variant try's the 11th time you might be able to.

Newsflash, scientists don't have unlimited budgets to do testing. Mythbusters is about as close to real-world experimentations as you can get. Wonderful show.

Did you know scientific theory is sometimes modified or scrapped entirely? Wow!

Edit: I have the Wiimote shot in 1280x1024 if anyone wants it as a wallpaper.

Ok after seeing that gif multiple times, I've gotta ask. Why is Hermione on Conan's lap?

It's from a set of ads Sony did to normal people having fun playing PS3. They were heavily mocked.

Here's the original thread where many more pictures reside:

its entirely possible. Many things can effect the result of that situation. For all you know the guy was using home made explosive rounds. I know a guy who goes deer hunting with his own special high explosive bullets.

I had the barrel of a 12 gauge crack on its full lenght because I had the tip in a mound of snow and I know a Sgt who had his C7 go all banana on him after a live round (plain 5.56 ball) was shot while he had a BFA on.

Those were both weapons with a lot of wear, but you can bet a 30-06 has enough power to blow up a brand new barrel, those are pretty damn powerful rounds.

They arent scientists? What do you call someone who studies the science of things? They might not have a degree, but they do know what they are talking about when they are doing these experements. They were never stunt men, they did special effects and what not for movies and TV. They back track on shows because of the fans that complain on their website forum and they decided to go back and re-test things.

I wouldnt say Im an expert in explosives or ballistics, but I am pretty weapon savvy. .30-06 is a powerful round, but Im pretty sure that when gun makers produce these rounds and guns, they test them to make sure that stuff like this wont happen.

If I remember correctly. Mythbusters tested the "banana barrel" on a shot gun. They couldnt produce the same effect like this, but the barrel did crack. Shotgun barrels are a lot thinner than rife barrels, especially something as bug as a .30-06. The picture might not be a photoshop, but the gun was definetly altered after the explosion went off.
