| I remember reading these as a young kid and being scared out of my mind. Without the great artwork, the effects would have been lessened. I can remember a night where I read one of these books, and preceded to spend the entire night frozen with fear staring at a dark corner of my room, convinced that the shadows my tonka trucks were making were some kind of demonic black cat. Far-fetched I know, but thinking back now, that was one of the worst nights of my life. I remember the story for that picture above vividly. The girl woke up one morning with a welt on her face and over a stretch of time it got worse and worse until one day in the shower it burst, revealing itself to be spider eggs laid in her skin while she was asleep. |

+6 Internets | Yeah, without the artwork, the books woulda been crap. The only one I can remember is some guy calling a lady repeatedly calling himself "the Viper" and he's coming to her apartment. The guy keeps calling and freaking the lady out, saying that "the Viper" is in the building and waiting for the elevator. Then she hears a knock on her door and when she opens it the guy goes: Spoiler Alert, click show to read: Cracks me up. |

| Coincidently the Scary Stories books are on the top 100 list of books that are challenged (asked to be removed/banned from schools and libraries). They are awesome books and I loved reading them during gradeschool. One story that I remember vividly is one where a kid saw someone walking on the floor above him and the footprints were showing on his ceiling. |

| There was one awesome story about a widow that lost her husband to an alligator.. and she wouldnt let her children near water.. then one day they ran off to the lake and there she saw them become alligators themselves and they joined this large adult gator... which was the dad... ok it sounds gay as shit when i type it out like this but I assure you back in 95 or around then it kicked unknown levels of ass.

+38 Internets | Oh shit, I remember those books. One of them has this story about some girl who had this huge boil on her face, and it kept growing and growing until eventually it burst. The page had this horrific drawing of her screaming as hundreds of spiders crawled out of it. And then the one about the potato stew? GIVE ME BACK MY BIG TOE. At 8 years old or whatever, that shit was intense. Edit: lols, as I go back one page to see what started the posting of those books, I see that very spider picture. Jesus fuck, it's just as creepy as when I was a kid, seriously. Last edited by Grave; 07-18-2007 at 10:04 PM.. |

| Preeeeetty sure that first story you described has its picture on this page not once, but dos tiempos. I've never liked horror but those books do look vaguely familiar; surprised I ever went above "Goosebumps" in the scary-book category. |

| You are not damn right | The scariest story in those books is someone (people) in a house, and they keep hearing this repeat in the woods, like fee fi fo him i want my coins or some shit like that (I think they stole silver dollars or some dead persons eyes that wer ebeing used to keep them closed - could be mixing it up) and it keeps getting louder and louder and louder until its like above them on the roof, then some head or some crazy shit rolls down the chimney. Gives me chills even now oh my.

| Man the worst story I read in that book I believe was in the second one. It was about a scarecrow comeing to life in this two brothers cornfield. The scarecrow would stalk the brothers, beat on their shack of a home during the night and all. Well the brothers decided to take their livestock and find another places to live. Well when they get to town one brother has to go back for the milking stool they left. Well the brother never comes back, and at sunrise the other brother goes to look for him and from a distance sees the scarecrow on top of their shack straightening out human skin bag needless to say. Scared the living SHIT outta me when I was a kid because it was close to halloween and people had scarecrows all over the place. When I got home there was no one there either. Probably one of the most scared shitless moments Ive ever had. |
