+66 Internets | Goddamn Makata, shut the fuck up already. Take this to the sports thread if you feel the need to continue. Walking and running are two very different mechanical processes in terms of the muscles used, efficiency, and so on. You cannot equate one with the other. |

Essential Reading - Topic Powered by eve community Seriously. I'm not saying "go run some laps fatty", although unless you've been diagnosed by a doctor with a serious medical condition preventing you from doing it... thats a good idea in most cases. I'm saying eat properly and get some exercise. that goes for everyone from the obese like this guy, to the "skinny fat" guy who is basically thin but has no muscle mass at all. | |

+15 Internets | Sorry to further gay up this thread, but when walking you maintain a fluid efficient motion. When running, you are essentially jumping over and over again. A great deal of energy is wasted by making your body needlessly leave the ground. Most people need many days/weeks to recover from a marathon run. If you walk 26 miles, you can do it again the next day. Issue closed. Oh and wind resistance definitely does matter. Mythbusters showed that a car got close to twice as fuel efficient when tailgating a semi. And birds doing a flying V isn't because they really like the mighty ducks movie. And since this is a pic thread, and I have no original pics, here is my favorite pic from this entire thread reposted. |

| Genetics affects BODY COMPOSITION, not weight. There's a huge difference. If you use up more Calories than you take in, you lose weight. It's not fucking rocket surgery. Being that you are made of food (science for teh win), if you do not supply enough fuel and building materials to maintain your existing mass, no matter how shitty your metabolic rate is, YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT. The trick is to make sure you lose fat and not muscle, and doing shitloads of cardio and/or eating too little will result in far more lost lean body mass than actual fat. It is completely, 100% impossible (no, you can't argue with this) for someone to "diet" and still not lose weight, much less gain weight. If you're on a diet and don't lose weight, it means you are eating too many damn calories. If you're losing weight but not really getting leaner (aka less fat) then it means your diet and/or exercise regimen needs to be reformulated. Eating plenty of protein, healthy fats, and low GI (slow digesting) carbohydrates spread over many meals (generally 6 or so) is essential, combined with either lots of low-intensity cardio or smaller sessions of intense cardio and, most importantly, resistance training. Some form of resistance training, generally weightlifting, is the only way to make sure your body prioritizes the preservation of lean mass. It will help you even if you don't want to get bigger or stronger and just want to be a non-fatass. In short, Makata is retarded. He's not fat because of genetics, he's fat because he spends so much time trying to compensate for his insecurities by wtfpwning newbs in PVP. And for the record, I'm speaking as someone who was fat almost from birth and dropped from 245 lbs. down to 162 before I started bulking up (in a good way). Genetics is a fucking cop-out used by people without the fucking discipline or knowledge to fucking work hard enough and/or smart enough to get shit accomplished. True, some things are made more difficult by genetics, but that's true about everything. Genetics don't somehow allow you to defy the laws of nature. You're not that fucking special.

| Flaccid Steel | Makata if you run everday for a month for 30 minutes and not lose weight I will give you my asian balls. When I say run, I mean running till you get tired, then stop till you can run again. Oh btw, don't talk as if 1.5-2 miles is a lot. I was in Hong Kong for a month from mid May - mid June. Had to walk at least that kind of distant everyday to get to the subway to go ANYWHERE. Try walking 4-5 hours a fucking day and we will talk. |

| Running and walking are two actions with much mechanical differences. When walking you always have one foot in contact with the ground. You pretty much just give enough momentum to lose balance and fall on the other foot. Running, you actually jump, both feet leave the ground, then you have to absorb the impact and nearly all the muscles of your body have to stiffen to keep you straight. To keep your balance your arms have to swing wider. Not quite the same thing. |
