The antennae galaxy is a fairly true color picture. One reason Hubble images look far more colorful and vibrand than land pictures is the earth's atmosphere tends to bleach images from space and falsify colors. Here is a land picture of the eagle nebula:

Pretty damn lame. The truth is probably somewhere inbetween, as the hubble sees things that a human eye cant in adition to normal light. By the time we could visit the nebula, every human should have sight comparable to hubble, so the views will be pleanty spectacular.

You need to add it as an attachment here. Various image hosting sites block link referring from this page from the start already, fohguild.org is blacklisted as "too much traffic" apparently
