Queen's Day is a national holiday, it's like the 4th of july in the US basically. Parties & activities all over the country. The parade with the royal family is part of it; it is nothing like Paris Hilton type fanatics.
Think of the dutch Royal house as a national symbol. Probably a bit like the American flag on 4th of july. It's not about a rag with some stripes on it, it's about what it represents.

The parade Yesterday was a celebration of the former Queen Juliana (who died a few years ago) her 100th birthday were she still alive. Because of that they had a massive parade wich represented all historical facts that happened in those 100 years, 2 world wars, coronations, the flooding of half our country in 1953, to name a few.. HUNDREDS of little school schildren were in those crowds learning about the history of their country.
If i ever have kids i am sure as shit going to take them to see the King or Queen of their country. I want them to learn how and why.

Our monarchy represents MUCH more then just the average tabloid fodder. If you really think it's all they do all day i cannot vbegin to explain how wrong you are on how many levels.. Up to this day they still represent our country, nothing goes by them without them signing off on it. Our government cannot pass laws without our Queen approving it. They keep the peace with other countries, provide us with contracts of trade.

Don't compare centuries of history of our monarchy with Paris HIlton, jesus christ that comparison alone shows how big of a fucking dumbass you are.
