with Robotech and Tranzor Z you just mentioned 2 of the 4 cartoons that forged my childhood

the other 2 were Mobile Suit Gundam and Fist of North Star

i basically grown up with these shows and their mangas when Italy was invaded by them in early '80

it's also the reason why i cant stand disney cartoons/comics. Who give a shit about mickey mouse and goofy when the main character of a show makes ppl explode with a touch of the finger?

i think you guys are talking about Getter Robot (pic below). The autor was Go Nagai, father of the already mentioned Tranzor Z (original name Mazinger Z) its successor Great Mazinger, Grendzinger (also know as Ufo Robot Goldrake) and Devilman. He's basically the man who created the "super robots" animes

there are also modern versions (Shin Getter Robot and Mazinkaiser) but they suck

Yep, that and Starblazers. I was watching Speed Racer and Starblazers from 79-83. Starblazers was so badass. I was pissed when they took it off the air.

YouTube - Helmet Gigantor

This CD I've had for years, had the Helmet track (better than on this yotube vid imo) as well as Sublime doing Hong Kong Phooey, the Butthole Surfers doing Underdog, Wax doing Ren & Stimpy and The Reverend Horton Heat doing Johnny Quest/Stop that Pigeon. Some of the other tracks were way too sugary for my taste, but there were some good ones on there. This link has some samples:
