Hmm, the impression I got was that they planned to replace pneumatic tires within 10-15 years, which is a helluva claim.

If they are all of what they say they are, and will be available soon, why would it take 15 years to replace normal tires? These are apparently cheaper, last 3-4 times as long, dont go flat, are much better at dealing with damage (like that tank that took a landmine and kept on driving) and have improved performance. If these were availble tommorow why on earth would you want the old tires!?

Because you can't beat the $5 price of the mystery brand tires sitting in piles outside of the small store with a giant sign on the roof that reads LLANTAS!

There you go right there. Cheaper, don't have to be replaced as often = less sales/profit for the manufacturer. They don't want that.

It's like if a funeral home owner found the fountain of youth. He'd bury the fountain because it would hurt his business.

Okay, wjhat I want to know is how do they stand up to the insane grip-needs of these drag cars? or hell, just a good launch on a street car.

How are we going to be garuntee'd that the tire's fins aren't going to twist when the rim starts moving?

When I see one on a top fuel dragster take off without any fins bending, then I'll but it.

Don't get me wrong, I think its a great idea. However, being performance minded, I can't see how I'd put it on any of the weekend car's I've owned. they've insane off-the-line grip needs, in some cases (AWD launches), and the fins twisting would eventually lead to damage, not to mention a bad launch. and the way I can see it, if they can grip off the line, they can grip around a corner as well, so, yeah.

So I was about to ask why there was a Unix book on that table...

But instead, I'd rather ask myself why I was looking at the Unix book on the table instead of the nudez?
