Consider the sequence of events.
a) Picture is posted.
b) He makes a simple 1 line remark about how he is forever scarred.
c) His credibility is challenged.
d) He provides a reasonably convincing answer.
Up until this point he certainly was not attention whoring, and simply sharing with the community. He took it a step further to provide some rudimentary proof. At that point you can either choose to believe him or choose not to, but acting like the internet tough guy and trying to argue the proof itself is not 100% conclusive is ridiculous.
