| The black balls help prevent evaporation. Black for UV protection. DWP drops 400,000 balls onto Ivanhoe Reservoir - Los Angeles Times They are also using them here to prevent the sun from further polluting their water. Which is already polluted because they added chlorine to it. But UV breaks down chlorine........ I fail to see why it is a good idea to chlorinate DRINKING WATER in the first place. | They should use white balls for solar reflection and less evaporation through thermal radiation. ![]() oh I guess its UV they're worried about Last edited by Tingteng : 07-16-2008 at 11:12 PM. |

+39 Internets | You mean bacteria can grow in untreated water? orly? Seriously, if you're worried about chlorine in drinking water, and you shouldn't anyway, but if you are just set out a jug of water for a few hours or a day. Bam, the chlorine's gone. It's actually a good idea to do this for watering plants. Nice work on the last page, great pics. Oh and yeah, I was gonna guess that maybe the balls were for cleaning up a chemical spill, but I guess not. |
