I have never played Team Fortress, but it reminds me of a version of Quake 3 i used to play. I cannot remember what it was called, but it was much like what team Fortress is. There were spies and engineers and big ass guys that walked slow, but had huge ass guns. They used the Quake Engine when it was released for people to use or some shit.

Anyways, is this the game that has evolved from that?

No, he was playing "Quake III Fortress," which is just one of many Team Fortress mods. It originated with "Team Fortress" for QuakeWorld.
